Cold Steel Emperor Series O Tanto Knife

Authentic replica of the long Tanto blade, an integral part of the combat gear used by the samurai caste. Drawing on classic elements from Japanese design, this model is crafted for enthusiasts who demand accuracy and superior craftsmanship. Alongside the katana and wakizashi, the tanto completed the essential arsenal of Japanese warriors. Designed for use as a backup weapon in close quarters and as a practical knife for everyday tasks.

1060 carbon steel

Forged from high-carbon 1060 spring steel, the blade delivers excellent hardness combined with superior impact resistance. Through a precise heat treatment process, the steel attains a hardness rating of 55-58 HRC, striking an ideal balance between long-lasting durability and straightforward sharpening. This makes it an excellent choice for a blade material.

Classic Tanto profile

Featuring a classic Tanto profile, the blade measures 331 mm in length and 7.9 mm in thickness, with its surface refined through polishing. Drawing inspiration from traditional Japanese short swords, the blade showcases a distinctively straight spine and a sharp point, delivering excellent penetration performance. A short fuller runs along the spine near the base, effectively reducing overall weight while preserving structural integrity, boosting stiffness, and enhancing balance.

Wooden handle with silk wrap

The handle consists of wood, coated with same (stingray skin), and finished with a traditional black silk wrap. The design is equipped with an ornamental tsuba (guard), kashira (pommel), and fuchi (metal collar), all crafted from a silvery-white metal alloy. Positioned beneath the wrap, a brass carved menuki detail adds a distinctive touch to the character of the model.

polished wooden sheath

Wooden black sheath (saya) is coated with a high-gloss finish. Integrated cord enables belt attachment for easy knife transport.

1060
1060 is a medium-carbon steel with a carbon content of 0.55-0.65%, characterized by good cutting properties and abrasion resistance. Thanks to its carbon content, this steel achieves a hardness of 55-58 HRC after proper hardening, which ensures the durability of the cutting edge. 1060 is easy to machine, and its hardness makes it a popular choice for the production of knives, machetes, and tools designed for heavier work. Due to the lack of alloying additives, this steel is not corrosion resistant, which requires proper maintenance and care to protect against rust. 1060 steel is widely used in the production of work tools and knives of medium hardness.
