Kray-Ex is a synthetic polymer with a rubber-like structure used by Cold Steel to manufacture knife handles. It is characterized by high adhesion and anti-slip properties, ensuring a secure grip even in high humidity, low temperatures, and with dirty hands. The material is flexible and absorbs shocks well, which increases comfort of use. Kray-Ex is also resistant to cracking, abrasion, chemicals, and adverse weather conditions, making handles made of this material durable and virtually maintenance-free. Cold Steel uses it in tactical, survival, and utility knives.

AUS-8A
AUS-8A is a Japanese stainless steel, equivalent to 440B steel, characterized by a good balance between corrosion resistance, ease of sharpening, and edge retention. The carbon content (0.7-0.75%) affects the hardness of the steel, while chromium (13-14.5%) provides very good corrosion and abrasion resistance. Vanadium additives (up to 0.26%) improve the homogeneity of the steel's crystal structure and increase the blade's resistance to abrasion. The steel also contains molybdenum (0.1-0.3%), manganese (0.5%), silicon (0.4-1%), and nickel (0.49%). After proper heat treatment, AUS-8 steel achieves a hardness of 58-60 HRC, making it a solid material with good cutting properties and durability. The steel is widely used in mid-range knives, mainly produced in Japan and Taiwan, such as the popular Ontario RAT 1.

Stonewash is a blade finishing technique that involves treating steel in a drum filled with stones, ceramic abrasives, or beads. The impact of the material creates a characteristic, irregular pattern with micro-scratches, giving the effect of a matte, slightly “aged” surface with a raw, practical appearance. The finish gives the knife an aesthetic look and masks minor scratches and marks that occur during use, keeping the blade looking like new for longer. The matte texture reduces light reflections, which is valued in tactical and outdoor knives, and the micro-scratches can further reduce friction during cutting. Due to its durability, discreet appearance, and ease of maintenance, stonewash is popular in EDC, field, and tactical knives.

    A very nice knife, especially if you care about discreet carrying. Perfect for summer, you can attach it to the inside of your pants or shorts because the clip in the sheath holds it firmly and securely. It's practically invisible while wearing. The knife itself is very nice, sharp, and seems to be solid. I was considering whether to get the bigger or smaller model, but this smaller one is absolutely sufficient for me. A typical fighting knife, however, if necessary, you can also cut a string, open a box, etc. It would be more difficult to whittle a stick with it, but as I mentioned, this knife is not meant for that, considering its design. Cold Steel, as always, does not disappoint. I recommend it.

    Superbly made and compact knife. In person, it gives a better impression than you would expect from the price. Sits very securely in the sheath, maybe even too much at first until you get used to it. Perfect as an EDC set, or for tossing in your pocket or hanging on a belt.

    I wanted to buy the cheaper G.I. Tanto, but decided to spend a bit more and get the SRK SK5 and... I don't regret it. Very well-made knife, precise, from good materials. The blade is painted black and the handle is also black, made from a very good non-slip material. The sheath allows for attachment in various positions.

    Solid workmanship, good factory sharpness. The smaller version works well as a pendant around the neck with one or two layers of clothing. It's worth replacing the default cord with something more stylish and durable (I recommend a twisted leather strap, it looks good and withstands rapid knife removal from the sheath).

    Apart from two flaws in the received piece, the knife itself is excellent, fits perfectly in the hand, and the blade length is correct. I recommend it to anyone who is deciding between this model and the bigger one (Safe Maker I).
