Cold Steel Talwar Plane Edge 4" Blade S35VN Folding Knife

Equipped with a broad Straight Back profile blade and flat grind, the folding knife delivers exceptional cutting performance. The blade receives a refined finish through the satin method. Crafted from S35VN stainless steel, the blade offers outstanding resistance to wear and corrosion. The handle, constructed from durable G10 laminate, features a slip-resistant texture for a secure grip. A double-sided thumb disc enables rapid deployment, while the advanced Tri-Ad Lock mechanism ensures reliability and user protection.

Renowned custom knife maker Andrew Demko and Cold Steel president Lynn C. Thompson are responsible for the knife’s design.

S35VN stainless steel

Forged from CPM S35VN powder steel, the blade delivers outstanding corrosion resistance and superior edge retention. Undergoing heat treatment, the steel reaches a hardness of 58-61 HRC, ensuring prolonged sharpness and reliable performance for everyday applications.

Straight-Back blade with satin finish

Equipped with a Straight-Back profile blade, the model offers a smooth cutting edge that measures 102 mm in length and 4 mm in thickness. The blade design stands out for its uncomplicated, softly sloping spine. Featuring a flat grind, the blade is finished using the satin method, which provides a semi-matte appearance and enhances resistance to scratches.

Profiled G10 laminate handle, jimping, flexible clip

Crafted from G10 laminate, the handle features multiple layers of fiberglass reinforced with epoxy resin, delivering outstanding strength, moisture resistance, and lightweight performance. Finger grooves are integrated to enhance grip and control, even under wet or muddy conditions. Positioned on the handle’s spine, jimping provides a secure anchor for the thumb, offering superior control over the blade during slicing tasks.

A flexible clip attached to the handle streamlines everyday carry by enabling secure attachment to a belt or pocket edge. The reversible design of the clip ensures the knife can be comfortably used by both right- and left-handed individuals. At the handle’s end, a hole allows for the addition of a safety lanyard.

Tri-Ad lock, double-sided thumb disc

The Tri-Ad Lock system, renowned as one of the most robust mechanisms in folding knives, guarantees secure handling during use. Its design utilizes a stop pin that disperses blade pressure across the handle, significantly reducing wear. The mechanism is self-adjusting, ensuring consistent and dependable locking performance over time. For ambidextrous operation, the blade includes a double-sided thumb disc, making opening with either hand effortless. Rapid blade deployment is also possible by hooking the thumb disc on the edge of a pocket.

CPM S35VN feature
CPM S35VN
CPM S35VN is a stainless powder steel developed by Crucible Industries in collaboration with Chris Reeve, used in premium knives. It is an evolution of the popular S30V steel, offering a better balance between wear resistance, stainlessness, and ease of machining. Carbon (approx. 1.4%) is responsible for high hardness, while chromium (approx. 14%) gives the steel very good corrosion resistance, and vanadium (approx. 3%) extends edge life and improves cutting aggression. After hardening, it reaches 58-61 HRC, combining edge durability with fracture resistance. The steel retains its sharpness for a long time and is easy to sharpen, commonly used in EDC, outdoor, tactical, and collector's knives.
Tri-Ad Lock feature
Tri-Ad Lock
Tri-Ad Lock is a lock developed by Cold Steel and Andrew Demko, considered one of the strongest systems in folding knives. Its key element is a stop pin, which takes the pressure from the blade and distributes it to the handle, protecting the lock from wear and overload. The mechanism is designed to self-adjust over time, which maintains the reliability of the lock even after prolonged use. In tests, it has proven resistant to loads of up to hundreds of pounds, confirming its durability.
G10 feature
G10
G10 is a lightweight and extremely durable material, considered one of the best for knife production. It is created by pressure-pressing fiberglass with phenolic resin, which gives it high durability and resistance to mechanical damage. It is chemically inert, does not conduct electricity, and retains its properties at both low and high temperatures. In terms of parameters, it is similar to carbon fiber, but its production is much cheaper. G10 handles are manufactured by precision cutting and cutting, which increases the cost of processing but ensures a perfect fit and long knife life.
Satin feature
Satin
Satin finishing is one of the most popular blade finishes, achieved by grinding the steel with fine-grained abrasives. Parallel micro-scratches remain on the surface, giving the knife a technical, matte appearance. Satin finishing has both aesthetic and practical significance - a smoothed blade is easier to clean, and the slightly reduced friction promotes smoother cutting. Depending on the direction and intensity of polishing, different effects are achieved - from a matte finish to an almost mirror-like finish. Satin is valued in both utility and collector's knives because it emphasizes the structure and quality of the steel while maintaining functionality.

Very nice, fits well in the hand. It is quite a large, wide knife and you have to remember that, but it fits in your pocket. The lock and build are rock solid, I have the impression that when unfolded it feels like a fixed-blade knife.

The knife is okay, but at this price the finish is unsatisfactory, the grind at the tip of the blade is clearly crooked. I hope it will almost completely improve after a few sharpenings.

An uncompromising machete, a clip point on steroids. The blade is similar in size to the Voyager XL Vaquero/Clip point, but in the Talwar the tip is much thicker, which gives you greater confidence that you won't break it accidentally by hitting some harder material. Compared to the Voyager models—longer handle, resulting in a greater cutting reach if you grip the knife at the very end of the scales. The TriAdLock lock rubbed slightly where it contacts the blade (remnants from the factory machining of the main lock element). This does not have a significant impact on the ease of opening/closing the knife, but for perfectionists—it requires a light sanding with high-grit sandpaper.
