Warm, soft zip-up sweatshirt fleece featuring a roomy hood with a visor. The 380 g/m2 fabric ensures excellent thermal insulation, even in extremely low temperatures, while allowing the efficient release of excess heat and moisture (sweat) generated during physical activity. Enhanced breathability and improved heat exchange with the environment are provided by zippered underarm vents. The zippers are oriented so users can easily operate them unassisted.
The generous fit allows for layering with a thinner sweatshirt underneath or for wearing over a bulletproof vest. The back section is slightly extended to shield the lower back from wind exposure, yet the jacket remains relatively short to offer free access to trouser pockets and any gear carried on the belt.
Equipped with six functional pockets:
- Two zippered chest pockets,
- Two sleeve pockets positioned at shoulder height,
- One pocket on the left sleeve near the wrist,
- One large “poacher’s pocket” on the back beneath the shoulders, featuring two separate openings from the right and left sides.
Soft Velcro panels are sewn onto the shoulder pockets, making it possible to attach compatible patches.
The hood features ample space to be worn over a cap or hat and is equipped with a soft visor to shield the face from water runoff. The hood is attached to the collar in a way that keeps the lining from exposing the neck, ensuring that sensitive areas remain protected against wind and cold.
From the wrist to the elbow, the sleeves are reinforced with durable fabric. Elastic cuffs have been replaced by velcro adjustment straps, allowing precise fit regardless of wrist size, and enabling use with gloves, a watch, or other accessories.
For optimal protection against cooling or moisture, ECWCS clothing is recommended.

I have the MK2 version of this fleece, which I really like, but I've always been interested in how its first edition looked. This version is slightly thicker than the MK2, so it provides a bit more warmth. In my opinion, it will work better when walking with a backpack equipped with a hip belt, because the pockets are conveniently placed and easy to reach. I also prefer the adjustable cuffs featured in this release. When it comes to sizes, I have the MK2 in 3XL, while this model is 2XL, and both fit great.
