Higo Irogane folding knife - Damascus

Compact folder with a simple design, inspired by early 19th-century knives. The knife is opened using a lever placed on the spine of the blade, and the blade with a Reverse Tanto profile is made of Damascus steel. The handle is made of copper, which naturally develops a patina over time.

Damascus steel

The knife's blade is made of Damascus steel, obtained by repeatedly forging and folding layers of steel, giving the blade a characteristic Damascus pattern and elegant appearance. The blade holds its sharpness well and is highly resistant to dulling during daily use. Damascus steel also provides good impact resistance and favorable cutting properties while remaining relatively easy to sharpen.

Reverse Tanto blade with Damascus pattern

The blade with a Reverse Tanto profile has a length of 74 mm and a thickness of 2.8 mm. The flat grind extending to the middle of the blade, combined with the small thickness of the blade, ensures good cutting properties. The blade has a smooth cutting edge and a visible, characteristic Damascus steel pattern.

copper handle with Japanese characters

The handle scales are made of copper, which naturally develops a layer of patina over time. The handle has a simple, compact form reminiscent of historical knives from the early 19th century. It features a hole for a cord or lanyard for securing, and on the side, kanji, or Japanese characters, are embossed.

friction folder mechanism

The knife uses a Friction Folder mechanism, where the blade is not locked with a traditional lock but is held open by friction and thumb pressure on the lever. The blade is manually opened using a lever located on the spine of the blade.

Damascus steel is a composite material created by combining multiple layers of different types of steel with varying properties. Repeated forging and welding creates a structure with high strength, flexibility, and hardness. Layers with a higher carbon content are responsible for the sharpness and durability of the edges, while nickel alloy steel increases corrosion resistance and provides a contrasting pattern. After etching the surface, a unique, wavy pattern characteristic of each piece is revealed. Thanks to its combination of functional and aesthetic properties, Damascus steel is used in premium knives, bladed weapons, and collector's knives.
