MAPA Camouflage

The MAPA camouflage pattern was developed by Maciej Dojlitko, a graduate and current faculty member at the Faculty of Architecture and Design at the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdańsk. He is also the author of publications such as Theory of Deconstruction of Visual Communication. Tools for designing military camouflage (Gdańsk 2015). The pattern’s innovative concept, grounded in robust theoretical and experimental foundations including computer analysis of thousands of terrain photographs, garnered significant interest from specialists and military apparel producers. In 2017, the MAPA camouflage was showcased for the first time at the International Defense Industry Exhibition in Kielce, serving as the camouflage scheme for the Dromader uniform and gear system by Maskpol—a company within the Polish Armaments Group. The system was originally designed for soldiers of the Territorial Defense Army, while the MAPA pattern itself was also evaluated as a potential future camouflage for the entire Polish Armed Forces, possibly replacing wz.93. Despite its merits, the MAPA camouflage has not yet been formally adopted as the official camouflage pattern of the Polish Army.

The main features of MAPA camouflage in the basic forest version

  • 6 distinct colors forming layers reminiscent of topographic map contours
  • Color palette optimized for use in Central European forests
  • Application of three-dimensional visual effects and anamorphic illusions
  • Biomorphic forms, lending the appearance of vegetation to the design
  • Strongly contrasting shapes that replicate the effects of light and shadow
  • Disruption of the wearer's outline through a macro scale pattern
  • Micro patterning provides color noise for enhanced concealment

The MAPA camouflage presents an appealing alternative to leading modern patterns such as PenCott, MultiCam, Kryptek, Flecktarn, or Finnish M/05. In several aspects, it surpasses these patterns in sophistication and more accurately mirrors the natural hues found in Central European woodlands from late spring through early autumn.

This is a simple, everyday backpack. Personally, I miss having front pockets where you could quickly put your keys or some small items, so you have to open it every time. It could also be a bit cheaper. The workmanship is great, but its usefulness is just so-so.

Well, I would say it's just average. The advantage is the material and the highest quality plastic elements. On the back there is an extra compartment for a camelbak. Inside the main compartment, there is a nice laptop divider. The backpack also has an organizer, which isn’t mentioned at all in the description. Unfortunately, it is a direct copy of the organizer from the Sparrow 20 backpack, meaning it’s not very well thought out and not very practical; everything falls out of it. The material used for the organizer doesn’t look durable, it’s definitely polyester. The straps use unusual buckles, making strap adjustment VERY hard—the straps have a lot of resistance. There are mesh bottle pockets on the sides, but unfortunately they're made of mesh. It would be better if they were made from Cordura like the rest of the backpack. It strongly resembles Wisport backpacks—made from high-quality materials, well sewn, but at the same time you can see cost-saving and impractical solutions. I was hoping for something more interesting.

Very nice backpack, made with great care. The material seems very strong. In reality, it looks different than in the photos - the yellow straps without camouflage on the sides are actually green. The straps are a bit too wide and move stiffly, but it’s not a feature that bothers me. The rear pocket has a strange access - it only opens from the side, so sometimes it’s hard to find something in there. Nadkoli should learn to advertise their products better, because they are very good, but I learned about most of the solutions only through usage or from online reviews.
