The Opinel 7 is like a 'wooden single-blade penknife' in size, one size smaller than the excellent number eight. You can cut less with it, but—something for something—it fits perfectly in your pocket. Inox, meaning stainless steel, doesn't require as thorough and immediate drying as the legendary carbon steel, yet its usefulness and charm are similar.
Opinel No.7 INOX Folding Knife
A mid-sized, remarkably lightweight folding knife equipped with an 8 cm locking blade. A time-honored design from a French manufacturer boasting over a century of heritage. The blade features a Clip-Point profile, crafted from stainless steel and finished in a semi-matte polish. Thanks to the flat grind approaching a zero-grind and the blade’s slim profile, outstanding cutting efficiency is achieved.
Simple and reliable Virobloc locking mechanism
In the open position, the blade is secured by the Virobloc lock, a mechanism patented in 1955. This system features a steel ring mounted on the handle at the pivot point of the blade. Once the knife is open, simply rotate the ring a few degrees until it blocks the slot where the blade rests in the handle, effectively immobilizing the blade. This action also provides protection against accidental unfolding while the knife is closed. A notch on the blade enables easy opening, similar to the mechanism found on Victorinox pocket knives.
Contoured handle made of beech wood
Constructed from beech wood, the handle is ergonomically contoured to deliver a reliable and warm grip. Among its noteworthy advantages is the ease of customization. The most straightforward way to modify it is by drilling a hole at the rear for a safety cord. Options also include adding custom textures, carving, or staining to achieve any desired color.

Opinel is a French knife brand whose history dates back to 1890 in Savoy. The founder, Joseph Opinel, created the first folding knife, No. 08, which quickly became a symbol of everyday use thanks to its simplicity and functionality. In 1955, the Virobloc locking system was introduced, later modernized, which is still the hallmark of the brand today. In 1985, Opinel was recognized by the Victoria and Albert Museum as one of the 100 best-designed objects in the world, and the brand's knives also found their way into the MoMA collection in New York. Production takes place in Chambery, with an emphasis on quality and ecology - the wood comes from French forests and the waste is used to heat the factory. Among the famous users was Pablo Picasso, who used Opinel for carving, and the knives themselves have become a symbol of simplicity, durability, and the French lifestyle.

In my opinion, Opinel No. 7 is the nicest looking size visually—perfect for a gift, etc.—and at the same time truly suitable for many tasks. However, if the user has rather large hands, I would consider the size 8, especially since 8 is even more comfortable than 7 for, for example, small salad or sandwich tasks.

I had the Carbon version, bought at Militaria a few years ago. My father liked it so much that it ended up with him. The knife is just perfect as a light EDC. Smaller than the most popular eight and nine. Ultra light. The knife is different from all the other steel, boring folders that look alike and lack the brand’s over a hundred years of history and soul. If you want to stand out in company, and you don't know Opinel, I highly recommend it. A big advantage is that it doesn't attract concern among bystanders, even in crowded places, due to its "original" character.

A classic in its genre. I already have an Opinel in the carbon version, which I prefer, but inox is a better option for fish. Basically, buying an Opinel is a lifetime purchase, with a timeless look and design.

Outstanding. Sharp as a razor.
-
The sharpest of the sharp, a great little gadget for your pocket, light and reliably sharp. I recommend it.
-
A knife that's perfect for cutting food while traveling. Lightweight and easy to clean.
-
Classic. Excellent for cooking outdoors and not only.
-
A classic, worth having in your collection.
-
Very nice knife for precise work. A classic, worth having in your collection.
-
The knife arrived rather dull, I had to sharpen it and now it cuts like a razor. Just be careful not to get it wet because the handle swells quickly, making it very hard to open the knife.
-
Small, sturdy, and sharp. Very nice wooden handle.
-
I needed a smaller knife, mainly for forest cooking—and this one was perfect!
-
I bought it as a gift for my son and I know he will be delighted. Opinel is a brand that speaks for itself.

The knife is not meant for heavy tasks. However, where sharpness and cutting abilities due to the blade's profile are required, it is excellent. Also, one of the nicest and most stylish knives I've seen. I had the inox version and the carbon version. Inox is not as atmospheric, but at least it doesn't get stains from things like mustard ;P
