Schrade Roadie Folding Knife - Black

An EDC (Everyday Carry) folding knife with a Wharncliffe-profile blade 39 mm long, made of high-quality AUS-10 stainless steel. The blade has a black oxide finish. The handle features a Frame Lock and G10 laminate scales. The knife’s design allows for comfortable one-handed operation and maintains good control during both simple and more demanding tasks.

AUS-10 stainless steel

The knife blade is made of B AUS-10B stainless steel. The carbon content ensures high hardness, while chromium provides good resistance to corrosion and wear. The presence of manganese, silicon, phosphorus, and sulfur enhances hardenability, elasticity, and machinability, while stabilizing the structure and maintaining the steel’s mechanical properties.

Wharncliffe profile blade

The blade features a Wharncliffe profile, characterized by a sturdy point, easy sharpening, and good cutting performance. The blade is 39 mm long and 2.4 mm thick. The blade features a hollow grind, which improves cutting performance and allows for clean, smooth cuts. The blade has been treated with a black oxide coating, which increases the blade’s resistance to abrasion, corrosion, and scratches.

G10 laminate handle scales

The handle scales are made of G10 laminate in black, which is resistant to mechanical damage and external factors. The back of the handle features a knurled pattern that improves stability when using the tool. At the end of the handle, there is a hole through which a lanyard or safety cord can be threaded, making it easier to carry the knife and reducing the risk of accidentally losing it. A short ball chain is included in the set.

Frame lock, flipper

The knife is opened using a flipper, which allows for quick one-handed deployment. When open, the flipper acts as a small cross guard that effectively prevents the hand from slipping onto the blade. The opening process has been streamlined through the use of the Ultra-Glide system, which is based on ball bearings.

The Frame Lock mechanism stabilizes the blade, securing the blade in the open position and preventing it from accidentally closing. The mechanism’s design ensures reliable operation and comfortable handling.

spring clip

Comfortable everyday carry is ensured by a spring-loaded steel clip in the tip-down position, which allows the knife to be easily attached to a belt or the edge of a pocket. The clip is mounted on the right side.

AUS-10 feature
AUS-10
AUS-10 is a high-quality stainless steel produced by the Japanese company Aichi Steel, considered one of the best in the AUS steel series, used mainly in mid-range and high-end utility knives, produced mainly in Japan and Taiwan. The carbon content (0.95-1.1%) ensures high hardness, while chromium (13-14.5%) guarantees very good corrosion and abrasion resistance. The steel also contains manganese (up to 1%), silicon (up to 1%), phosphorus (up to 0.025%), and sulfur (up to 0.025%), which affect hardenability, impact strength, elasticity, and machinability, improving structural stability and maintaining mechanical properties. After hardening, the steel achieves a hardness of 58-61 HRC, offering an excellent balance between strength, edge retention, and ease of sharpening. It is comparable to 440C steel, differing in carbon content and the addition of vanadium, which improves structural homogeneity and increases abrasion resistance.
System Ultra Glide feature
System Ultra Glide
Ultra-Glide system used in Schrade knives is a ball bearing-based opening mechanism designed to ensure smooth, light, and quick one-handed blade deployment. This solution minimizes the resistance of the mechanism, making the blade movement smooth, precise, and much more pleasant than in designs without bearings. Ultra-Glide significantly facilitates knife operation by reducing the effort required to open it, making it particularly practical in EDC knives.
G10 feature
G10
G10 is a lightweight and extremely durable material, considered one of the best for knife production. It is created by pressure-pressing fiberglass with phenolic resin, which gives it high durability and resistance to mechanical damage. It is chemically inert, does not conduct electricity, and retains its properties at both low and high temperatures. In terms of parameters, it is similar to carbon fiber, but its production is much cheaper. G10 handles are manufactured by precision cutting and cutting, which increases the cost of processing but ensures a perfect fit and long knife life.
Black Oxide feature
Black Oxide
Black Oxide is a chemical conversion process in which a thin layer of magnetite (Fe3O4) is formed on the surface of steel and other ferrous metals. It gives a black, matte appearance, reduces reflectivity, and does not affect the dimensions of the components, so it can also be used in precision parts. The coating provides limited corrosion protection, so it is usually reinforced with oil or wax. Black Oxide is used in knives, firearms, and tools. The process requirements are specified in MIL-DTL-13924, which covers processing grades, color uniformity, and corrosion resistance tests, and is the basic standard for military and technical applications.
