Featuring a comparatively large aperture within a compact body, this model is ideal for initial ventures into astrophotography when paired with a suitable drive. The combination of strong light intensity and moderate focal length makes the instrument well-suited for basic astrophotography involving relatively brief exposure durations.
Optical system
Configured as a short focal length refractor, the telescope employs a high light transmission lens system. The two-element Fraunhofer lens measures 102mm in diameter with a 500mm focal length. Optical surfaces are treated with anti-reflective coatings to deliver superior transmission and image contrast. Included in the package are a 90-degree mirror diagonal and Kellner eyepieces – 10mm and 25mm
Mount
A sturdy parallactic EQ3-2 mount supports the telescope tube. This robust design allows for sky imaging using optical tubes up to 150mm in diameter and offers a balance between stability and portability. The mount provides accurate micro-movements, and can accommodate advanced drive systems such as the SynScan GoTo (i.e., EQ3-2 Upgrade Kit). Telescopes with a Dovetail bar in the Vixen
standard can be attached to the EQ3-2 mount.
The focuser is a Rack & Pinion (gear mechanism) design, finishing with a clamping ring and screw to secure 2-inch accessories. A standard base for a Sky-Watcher finder is integrated into the focuser body. Also compatible with Sky-Watcher focuser motor drives.
