The Snowpeak GR1600W 4.5 mm Wood air rifle is equipment with very high potential, but it requires a good feel. The rifle has tremendous power, which is a big plus, but this also generates considerable recoil that you need to get used to in order to hit the target consistently. On the plus side, I count the smooth operation of the gas spring and the solid construction, but for beginner shooters the air rifle may prove too “difficult.”

The air rifle features a classic break-open design equipped with a gas spring, a threaded barrel, and a beech wood handguard. Engineered for 4.5 mm Diabolo pellets, the rifle achieves a muzzle velocity reaching up to 300 m/s. Perfectly suited for recreational shooting as well as more advanced uses.
Beech wood handguard, Piccatiny rail
The handguard is crafted from robust beech wood. The stock is equipped with a contoured Monte Carlo cheek pad, accommodating both right- and left-handed users. Enhanced checkering on the grip and handguard ensures a secure hold. A rubber foot plate at the end of the stock effectively absorbs recoil after each shot. Mounted atop the body are integrated mechanical sighting devices, including a front sight and an adjustable rear sight. Standard equipment also features a Picatinny rail, allowing for the attachment of various optical sights.
Gas spring, threaded barrel, automatic fuse
The GR1600W boasts a 430 mm precision threaded barrel equipped with a detachable sound suppressor and a gas spring, ensuring more consistent shot performance and offering quieter, smoother operation compared to conventional spring mechanisms. The gas spring technology also ensures that performance parameters remain stable over extended periods. Tensioning of the spring is performed with a classic Break Barrel system. An automatic safety positioned at the rear of the action prevents accidental discharge.

The air rifle is clearly intended for shooting with more energy than the law allows. The heavy cocking effort does not translate into power. The kick is quite noticeable, but not excessive. The whole thing is long, even without a suppressor. Overall, it is properly made, with decent open sights copied from more expensive air rifles. It is a pity that this is not an air rifle with lower energy potential; it could have been a hit... but it is not.

Indeed, the cocking effort is not the lightest, but it is a spring-piston air rifle after all. It is pleasant to shoot, and the build quality raises no concerns. From my side, I can recommend it.

I do not recommend it. The cocking effort is like for 40 J, but the shot is 11 J. It requires athletic strength and the power is poor. Apart from that, the rifle is nice. Solidly made. I do not know how it was done - perhaps the piston is drilled to adjust the power to legal requirements.
