Spring knives, popularly known as "spring knives" or "automatics," are folding knives whose instant opening is achieved by the action of a spring (flat or helical) inside the handle. Contrary to myths spread by incompetent people, the possession of spring knives is not covered by any Polish law. They can be carried and used for any legal purpose. A spring knife can serve as a tool carried on a daily basis, just as is the case with other knives.
The spring assisted unfolding of the blade in a spring-loaded knife allows the blade to be extended in an instant. Commonly referred to as a Sicilian, knives of this type in the closed position are usually secured against accidental opening and against accidental folding of the blade. An extendable spring knife, one whose blade extends forward as a result of the release of a tensioned spring, is referred to as an OTF, or Out The Front, knife.
Spring-loaded knives work well as EDC (Everyday Carry) knives because they are easy to carry, and the safety of use is ensured by appropriate locks. In addition, thanks to the wide variety, every user can find a spring knife that meets his individual preferences.
