A tactical stasis is a type of medical equipment used to save lives. It is used for taming extensive and serious hemorrhages that may pose a threat to the health and life of the victim. It is an essential piece of equipment for soldiers during military operations and for uniformed services such as police and firefighters.
A military stasis is a type of tourniquet used on a limb. By applying a stasis to a gunshot wound, the artery is pressed against the bone, preventing blood flow. A tourniquet can also be used in cases where a limb has been amputated, crushed or hemorrhaged massively. The tactical stasis types currently in use are CAT and SOFT. The CAT (Combat Application Tourniquet) stasis is made of soft and breathable material trimmed with Velcro to prevent abrasions and skin chafing. The Velcro contains a restraining element in the form of a polymer pin with an additional locking element. The SOFT or SOFTT (Special Operations Forces Tactical Tourniquet) stasis is the most popular tourniquet used in the military today. Its design resembles that of the CAT stasis, but instead of a locking element, it is equipped with a buckle and a safety screw. Importantly, the tactical stasis is easy to use and will prove useful for self-help. Due to its design, it can be worn on any limb. The locking systems, which have been tested in combat conditions, effectively protect the stasis from accidental unfastening or slipping off.
Given the importance of medical instrumentation, during operations (especially on the battlefield) the stasis should be in an easily accessible place. Making it easier to carry the stasis is provided by a holster or stasis pouch, so that the tourniquet will always be at hand. Many of the models of pouches and holsters are equipped with the MOLLE trouser system. Thanks to it, the pouch along with the stasis can be carried on a backpack, tactical vest or at the belt. Tactical stasis pouches are made of durable and abrasion- and tear-resistant materials, such as 500D or 1000D Cordura. Depending on the model of the loader or holster, Velcro or buttons are used, which allow quick and efficient extraction of the stasis, making it possible to provide quick assistance to an injured person.
