I wanted to have an assault rifle and now I do, and in the process I proved two truths to myself: 1) "what's cheap is expensive" and 2) "some gun models are iconic/timeless" ad1. I bought (doesn't matter where) some cheap discounted H-Kaśka 416 for 350 PLN and I'll say this: it shoots, but it's hard to find a spot without play, what annoys me most is the amplitude of movement in the stock and magazine; overall it's just kind of "flexible" - no consistency or grouping. I removed the conventional iron sights and put on a 3 x 10 scope (probably a Theta for a couple of hundred) - probably just to see the scatter at x 10 magnification. You can't really zero the scope, especially in the up-down axis. Oh well - you knew what you were getting into - at this point some pistols are heavier. Why didn't that make me think? Okay, enough criticizing a good company for a toy-like product. I closed my eyes so I wouldn't see myself going into overdraft :-) and ordered an AEG SLV36. Some people will laugh, but for me it's expensive (the most expensive in my collection) and, to be honest, it's probably "the lower end of the middle range". It arrived at work after 3 pm so I just did the unboxing and got my first impressions. 1. Weight. Almost 3 kilos, only sound is the BBs rattling in the magazine, and since I had no optics at hand, standard iron sights and an apple hastily hung on a tree about 15 m from the window. The stock "naturally" fit into the shooting notch, the apple took the first BB, then I had to wait for it to stop swinging. To finish, switch to auto-fire - two apple halves fell. Further tests interrupted by darkness, and I was left wondering "why do I even need optics". The interchangeable rear sight is great. Well, we'll see how it goes tomorrow with the scope since the boss isn't there :-) After the "unboxing" I conclude that it's silly to save, a few hundred really matters, and the fact that this rifle has been on the market for over a dozen years speaks for itself.
