Bestech Knives Tardis Folding Knife by Ostap Hel - Two-Tone/Black

A folding knife boasting a total length of 195 mm, equipped with a Cleaver-style blade measuring 80 mm in length. Crafted from D2 tool steel, renowned for its exceptional resistance to wear and chipping, the blade is flat ground and finished with a black satin coating for a matte appearance. The handle is outfitted with a Liner Lock mechanism and features G10 laminate scales in black. The design comes from the renowned Polish knifemaker Ostap Hel.

Polish project

Ostap Hel is a respected Polish knife designer recognized for his distinctive, contemporary creations. His work stands out due to balanced proportions, sleek lines, and meticulous attention to detail, all contributing to exceptional ergonomics. He produces original designs as well as partners with reputable companies such as WE Knife and Bestech Knives.

D2 tool steel

Forged from D2 tool steel, the blade boasts exceptional wear resistance and maintains its sharpness over prolonged use. Composed of high-carbon steel with substantial chromium content, D2 forms numerous hard carbides, ensuring superior edge retention even when tackling demanding tasks. While D2 steel provides reliable edge stability, its impact toughness remains moderate, rendering it optimal for slicing operations rather than intensive prying.

Cleaver profile blade, flat grind, PVD coating

A blade with a Cleaver profile offers maximum control during cutting tasks and outstanding efficiency when working along long edges. The distinctively high and wide design ensures remarkable stability, straightforward blade guidance, and enables precise, repeatable cuts. The expansive, flat surface makes it convenient for transporting and scooping materials. With a shortened, "cut" front, the blade’s front portion is reinforced for increased safety and durability, minimizing the likelihood of tip damage during demanding use. Such a profile excels in EDC and utility applications where sturdy cutting power, stability, and complete control over the blade are essential. Jimping (serrations) along the blade’s spine offers a reliable thumb rest, boosting precision and control during cuts.

The Tardis model employs a flat grind, delivering optimal cutting performance, minimal friction, and reliable stability when guiding cuts. A robust, black PVD coating with high scratch resistance covers the blade, providing enhanced protection from corrosion and effectively minimizing unwanted reflections.

G10 laminate handle

Featuring an ergonomically contoured handle constructed from highly durable and weather-resistant G10 laminate, the knife offers a secure grip. A dedicated finger groove enhances safety by preventing the hand from slipping forward onto the blade.

Liner Lock, spring-loaded clip

Deployment of the knife is facilitated by an ambidextrous thumb stud, while the main pivot, equipped with a ceramic ball bearing, ensures smooth opening action. In the fully opened position, the blade is firmly locked in place with a Liner Lock mechanism.

A secure and comfortable carry is provided by a resilient steel deep-carry clip (tip-up, right side), making attachment to a belt or pocket edge quick and convenient.

D2 feature
D2
D2 is a high-carbon tool steel classified as semi-stainless, characterized by high wear resistance and the ability to maintain a thin, durable edge. It achieves a hardness of 57-62 HRC, which ensures long-lasting sharpness even with intensive use. Its chemical composition is a precisely selected combination of elements: carbon (1.4-1.6%), chromium (11-13%), molybdenum (up to 0.8%), vanadium (up to 1%), manganese (up to 1%), and silicon (up to 1%). The high carbon and chromium content ensures hardness and wear resistance, while molybdenum and vanadium improve the strength and durability of the cutting edge. Although D2 steel is not completely stainless, its corrosion resistance is sufficient to meet the requirements of most conditions of use. It is widely used in the production of mid-range and high-end knives, including handmade knives and cutting tools.
G10 feature
G10
G10 is a lightweight and extremely durable material, considered one of the best for knife production. It is created by pressure-pressing fiberglass with phenolic resin, which gives it high durability and resistance to mechanical damage. It is chemically inert, does not conduct electricity, and retains its properties at both low and high temperatures. In terms of parameters, it is similar to carbon fiber, but its production is much cheaper. G10 handles are manufactured by precision cutting and cutting, which increases the cost of processing but ensures a perfect fit and long knife life.
PVD - Physical Vapor Deposition feature
PVD - Physical Vapor Deposition
PVD (Physical Vapor Deposition) coating is a modern technology for applying ultra-thin layers of metal in a vacuum, which significantly increases the durability of knives. Thanks to this, the blade becomes highly resistant to scratches, abrasion, and corrosion, while gaining a matte surface that reduces glare. This process allows for aesthetic finishes in various colors, from deep black to gold, which do not wear off like classic paint. As a result, the knife retains its great appearance and full functionality even with intensive use.

Quite a pleasant razor, surprisingly more practical shape than it might seem. Nice, vibrant neon color scheme and good performance. I see this knife staying in my pocket for a long time.
