Bestech Knives Tardis Folding Knife by Ostap Hel - Two-Tone/Black Red

A folding knife measuring a total of 195 mm, equipped with a blade length of 80 mm in a Cleaver style, crafted from D2 tool steel renowned for exceptional wear and chip resistance. The blade features a flat grind and a black satin coating for a non-reflective, matte appearance. A Liner Lock mechanism ensures secure handling, while red G10 laminate scales enhance the grip. Designed by acclaimed Polish knifemaker Ostap Hel.

Polish project

Ostap Hel is a respected Polish knife designer renowned for his distinctive and contemporary creations. His designs stand out for their balanced proportions, smooth curves, and meticulous attention to detail, ensuring exceptional user comfort. He crafts his own unique models and partners with leading brands such as WE Knife and Bestech Knives.

D2 tool steel

Forged from D2 tool steel, the blade excels in exceptional wear resistance and retains its sharpness over extended periods. Featuring a high concentration of carbon and chromium, the steel’s abundant hard carbides deliver superior edge retention even when cutting through resilient materials. While D2 ensures reliable edge stability, its impact toughness is rated as moderate, making it ideal for precision cutting tasks rather than forceful prying.

Cleaver profile blade, flat grind, PVD coating

A blade featuring a Cleaver profile delivers exceptional cutting control and outstanding efficiency during tasks involving prolonged cuts along the edge. Its distinctively high and wide shape ensures superior stability, effortless guidance, and enables accurate, repeatable cutting performance. The broad, flat surface enhances comfort when transporting and scooping materials. A shortened, “cut” tip at the front enhances safety, reinforces the blade’s forward section, and minimizes the risk of tip damage in demanding applications. This blade design proves highly effective for EDC and utility use, offering optimal stability, robust cutting capability, and precise blade control. Jimping (serrations) along the blade spine furnishes a secure resting place for the thumb, boosting grip and command during cutting operations.

The Tardis model features a flat grind, known for delivering reliable cutting performance, minimal resistance, and steady guidance throughout the cutting motion. The blade’s black PVD coating offers impressive scratch resistance, adds an extra barrier against corrosion, and helps to reduce glare.

G10 laminate handle

The scales of the ergonomically contoured handle are crafted from highly durable and weather-resistant G10 laminate. A specially designed finger groove offers additional protection, helping to prevent your hand from sliding onto the blade.

Liner Lock, spring-loaded clip

Deployment of the knife is simple with the ambidextrous thumb stud, supported by a ceramic ball bearing at the main pivot for smoother blade action. Once fully opened, the blade remains securely in place thanks to the reliable Liner Lock mechanism.

A secure and comfortable carry is provided by a springy steel deep-carry clip (tip-up, right-sided), making it easy to attach the knife to a belt or pocket edge.

D2 feature
D2
D2 is a high-carbon tool steel classified as semi-stainless, characterized by high wear resistance and the ability to maintain a thin, durable edge. It achieves a hardness of 57-62 HRC, which ensures long-lasting sharpness even with intensive use. Its chemical composition is a precisely selected combination of elements: carbon (1.4-1.6%), chromium (11-13%), molybdenum (up to 0.8%), vanadium (up to 1%), manganese (up to 1%), and silicon (up to 1%). The high carbon and chromium content ensures hardness and wear resistance, while molybdenum and vanadium improve the strength and durability of the cutting edge. Although D2 steel is not completely stainless, its corrosion resistance is sufficient to meet the requirements of most conditions of use. It is widely used in the production of mid-range and high-end knives, including handmade knives and cutting tools.
G10 feature
G10
G10 is a lightweight and extremely durable material, considered one of the best for knife production. It is created by pressure-pressing fiberglass with phenolic resin, which gives it high durability and resistance to mechanical damage. It is chemically inert, does not conduct electricity, and retains its properties at both low and high temperatures. In terms of parameters, it is similar to carbon fiber, but its production is much cheaper. G10 handles are manufactured by precision cutting and cutting, which increases the cost of processing but ensures a perfect fit and long knife life.
PVD - Physical Vapor Deposition feature
PVD - Physical Vapor Deposition
PVD (Physical Vapor Deposition) coating is a modern technology for applying ultra-thin layers of metal in a vacuum, which significantly increases the durability of knives. Thanks to this, the blade becomes highly resistant to scratches, abrasion, and corrosion, while gaining a matte surface that reduces glare. This process allows for aesthetic finishes in various colors, from deep black to gold, which do not wear off like classic paint. As a result, the knife retains its great appearance and full functionality even with intensive use.

Quite a pleasant razor, surprisingly more practical shape than it might seem. Nice, vibrant neon color scheme and good performance. I see this knife staying in my pocket for a long time.

Bestech is my second knife from this company. They make very high-quality knives in original forms, from good materials, and with interesting designs. You could shave with this one—I checked. I recommend it.
