Bestech Knives Tardis Folding Knife by Ostap Hel - Two-Tone/Blue

A folding knife measuring a total of 195 mm in length, equipped with a blade of 80 mm and a Cleaver-style profile. Crafted from D2 tool steel, which offers exceptional resistance to wear and chipping. The flat-ground blade features a black satin coating for a matte appearance. The handle is fitted with a Liner Lock mechanism and blue G10 laminate scales. Designed by the Polish knifemaker Ostap Hel.

Polish project

Ostap Hel, a respected Polish knife designer, is renowned for his distinctive and contemporary style. His creations stand out for their balanced proportions, smooth contours, and meticulous attention to detail, ensuring exceptional user comfort. He develops original designs as well as partners with renowned brands like WE Knife and Bestech Knives.

D2 tool steel

Forged from D2 tool steel, the blade boasts exceptional wear resistance and retains its sharp edge for an extended period. As a high-carbon alloy enriched with high chromium content, D2 forms a multitude of hard carbides, ensuring outstanding edge retention, particularly when dealing with challenging materials. While D2 provides impressive edge stability, its impact toughness remains moderate, making it ideal for cutting tasks rather than heavy-duty prying.

Cleaver profile blade, flat grind, PVD coating

Featuring a Cleaver profile, the blade is engineered to deliver optimal cutting control and high efficiency for tasks along longer edges. The signature high and wide shape delivers outstanding stability and ease in blade guidance, enabling precise and consistent cuts. A broad, flat section ensures comfortable handling for carrying and scooping tasks. The shortened, "cut" front enhances safety and reinforces the leading edge, minimizing the risk of tip damage during intense use. Exceptionally suited for EDC and utility applications, this profile excels when stability, heavy-duty cutting, and total blade control are required. Jimping (serrations) along the spine provides a secure resting point for the thumb, further improving grip and blade control during use.

The Tardis model incorporates a flat grind, ensuring excellent cutting performance, low resistance, and reliable stability while guiding cuts. The blade is finished with a robust black PVD coating, recognized for high scratch resistance. This finish supplies extra protection from corrosion and minimizes light reflection.

G10 laminate handle

The ergonomically contoured handle features scales crafted from highly durable and environmentally resistant G10 laminate. A dedicated finger notch offers enhanced safety by preventing the hand from slipping forward onto the blade.

Liner Lock, spring-loaded clip

An ambidextrous thumb stud allows for smooth blade deployment, further aided by a ceramic ball bearing system at the knife’s main pivot. A secure open position is ensured by a reliable Liner Lock mechanism.

A springy steel deep-carry clip (tip-up, right-side carry) guarantees comfortable transport, making it simple to attach the knife to a belt or pocket edge.

D2 feature
D2
D2 is a high-carbon tool steel classified as semi-stainless, characterized by high wear resistance and the ability to maintain a thin, durable edge. It achieves a hardness of 57-62 HRC, which ensures long-lasting sharpness even with intensive use. Its chemical composition is a precisely selected combination of elements: carbon (1.4-1.6%), chromium (11-13%), molybdenum (up to 0.8%), vanadium (up to 1%), manganese (up to 1%), and silicon (up to 1%). The high carbon and chromium content ensures hardness and wear resistance, while molybdenum and vanadium improve the strength and durability of the cutting edge. Although D2 steel is not completely stainless, its corrosion resistance is sufficient to meet the requirements of most conditions of use. It is widely used in the production of mid-range and high-end knives, including handmade knives and cutting tools.
G10 feature
G10
G10 is a lightweight and extremely durable material, considered one of the best for knife production. It is created by pressure-pressing fiberglass with phenolic resin, which gives it high durability and resistance to mechanical damage. It is chemically inert, does not conduct electricity, and retains its properties at both low and high temperatures. In terms of parameters, it is similar to carbon fiber, but its production is much cheaper. G10 handles are manufactured by precision cutting and cutting, which increases the cost of processing but ensures a perfect fit and long knife life.
PVD - Physical Vapor Deposition feature
PVD - Physical Vapor Deposition
PVD (Physical Vapor Deposition) coating is a modern technology for applying ultra-thin layers of metal in a vacuum, which significantly increases the durability of knives. Thanks to this, the blade becomes highly resistant to scratches, abrasion, and corrosion, while gaining a matte surface that reduces glare. This process allows for aesthetic finishes in various colors, from deep black to gold, which do not wear off like classic paint. As a result, the knife retains its great appearance and full functionality even with intensive use.

Quite a pleasant razor, surprisingly more practical shape than it might seem. Nice, vibrant neon color scheme and good performance. I see this knife staying in my pocket for a long time.
