Cold Steel Black Bear Bowie Fixed Blade Knife 1055

Fixed blade knife constructed with a Full Tang design and featuring a broad blade in the Bowie style, crafted from 1055 high-carbon steel. The blade comes with a black powder-coated anti-corrosion coating, while the handle is formed from durable polypropylene. With a blade length of 305 mm, this model is suitable for use as a compact machete, ideal for cutting vines and thin branches. A sheath made from ballistic nylon Cor-Ex is included.

1055 high-carbon steel

Forged from 1055 high-carbon steel, the blade boasts a hardness rating of 54-57 HRC, which enhances resistance to cracks and chipping, ensures easier re-sharpening, and strikes a balance between toughness and flexibility. These characteristics make 1055 steel a popular choice for crafting machetes, bushcraft knives, swords, and tools intended for demanding field applications.

Bowie profile blade, powder coating

Designed with a Bowie blade profile, the blade features a length of 305 mm and a thickness of 2.8 mm. A matte black powder coating covers the surface, minimizing reflections and delivering an extra layer of protection against corrosion, abrasion, and wear commonly encountered during field operations.

Full Tang construction, injection-molded handle

The handle features a Full Tang design, where the steel tang extends throughout the entire length of the handle for enhanced strength and load resistance. Polypropylene scales are directly injection-molded onto the tang, boosting durability against moisture and everyday use. A textured surface provides a secure hold, while the integrated cross guard reduces the chance of the hand sliding onto the blade. An opening at the handle’s end accommodates a safety lanyard.

Cor-Ex sheath

Constructed from Cor-Ex, a highly durable ballistic nylon, the sheath provides comfortable belt carry for the knife. Engineered for resistance to abrasion and moisture, it also enables rapid access to your tool.

1055 feature
1055
1055 is a medium-carbon steel with a carbon content of 0.5-0.6%, characterized by a good combination of hardness, impact strength, and resilience. It is a steel with a simple chemical composition, containing mainly carbon and a small amount of manganese (0.6-0.9%), which improves the impact strength and hardenability of the material. Thanks to these properties, 1055 steel is widely used in the production of machetes, bushcraft knives, swords, and tools designed for heavier field work. After proper hardening, the steel achieves a hardness of 54-57 HRC, which ensures high resistance to cracks and chipping, but at the same time makes it easy to sharpen. However, due to its relatively low abrasion resistance and susceptibility to rust, this steel does not retain its sharpness for long.
Powder feature
Powder
Powder coating is a modern finish that creates a hard and durable protective layer on metal elements, including knife blades. The process involves electrostatically applying dry powder to the surface and curing it in an oven, resulting in a thicker and more uniform coating than traditional paints. Powder Coat does not contain solvents and is more environmentally friendly, prevents the coating from running during application, and provides high resistance to corrosion, scratches, impacts, chemicals, and UV radiation. The coating is available in a wide range of colors and textures, from smooth to rough, allowing you to customize the look and functionality of the finish.
Cor-Ex feature
Cor-Ex
Cor-Ex is a name registered by Cold Steel for ballistic nylon used in sheaths, carrying straps, and covers for knives, machetes, and axes. The material is lightweight, flexible, and resistant to abrasion and tearing, making it a convenient alternative to leather or Kydex. Thanks to its Cordura-like structure, it performs well in demanding field and outdoor conditions, especially with large tools.
