The Dragonfly series represents Cold Steel’s most elite collection of Japanese swords, distinguished by the prominent dragonfly motif featured in its ornamentation.
The wakizashi is constructed following traditional patterns and materials, promising to meet all expectations. Historically, the wakizashi was favored by affluent peasants as it was the only blade permitted for their class. Only samurai had the privilege to wear both the katana and the wakizashi, a pair known as daisho.
WARNING! Fully designed for Tameshigiri - test cutting and strength training.
Forged from expertly tempered 1055 spring steel, the blade features a zero-grind edge, seamlessly transitioning from the flats to the cutting edge. Exceptionally sharp, it slices through training mats with ease. The flats boast a high-gloss polish, while the blade edge maintains a semi-matte satin finish.
The handle is crafted from wood and wrapped in genuine Same (ray skin - Raja) and traditional silk cord. The Tsuba (guard), Kashira (pommel), and Menuki (decorative accents beneath the wrap) stand out for their detailed metal castings.
The Saya (scabbard) is fashioned from wood and coated with enamel to mimic traditional Japanese lacquer, accompanied by an ornate cover made of high-density silk fabric.
An impressive fusion of historically accurate reproduction and a fully operational, razor-sharp blade.
Highly recommended for advanced practitioners of the sword arts (Kenjutsu, Iaido, Kendo) as well as collectors of fine blades.

Very sharp with a nice design, worth buying.

After opening, the sword was jammed in the saya up to the seppa, making the habaki invisible, which caused damage to the koiguchi. When trying to draw it from the saya, I had to use considerable force/a hammer, which resulted in damage to the kurigata. As for the ha and hasaki, they are not very sharp and require additional sharpening. I repaired the damage myself. Of course, it's not a perfect samurai sword—there's no hamon. For this price, it's hard to expect something more; you can really cut yourself with it. It looks very good on the stand.
