Cold Steel Drop Forged Wasp 52100 High Carbon Dagger

A dagger with an extremely durable Full Tang construction, meaning the blade tang extends through the entire handle. The dagger-profile blade is made of high-carbon 52100 tool steel and coated with an anti-glare, anti-corrosion protective coating. The handle consists of black, durable polymer scales bolted to the tang. The set includes a Secure-Ex sheath, which allows for convenient carrying of the knife on a belt or attached to other gear.

52100 Tool Steel

The knife is made from a single piece of 52100 tool steel, which is characterized by high strength and resistance to chipping and cracking. The material used combines high impact resistance with optimal wear resistance. Additionally, this steel is easy to sharpen, even in field conditions.

dagger profile blade, black anti-corrosion coating

The 171 mm blade features a dagger profile (with a symmetrical double-edged blade), and its geometry gives the tip excellent penetration capabilities. The blade’s 7 mm thickness and the reinforced tip profile ensure the tool’s exceptional durability during heavy use. The knife is coated with a protective black coating that protects it from corrosion and eliminates light reflections.

ergonomically shaped handle scales, double-sided cross guard

The knife's handle consists of scales screwed onto the tang, made of durable polymer with a non-slip texture, which ensure a secure grip in all conditions. The double-sided cross guard prevents fingers from sliding onto the blade, increasing safety during use.

At the rear, the tang extends beyond the handle scales and is shaped like a wide dummy round, allowing it to be used for emergency glass breaking and as an improvised field tool. There is also a hole for a safety lanyard at the back of the handle.

Secure-Ex system sheath, mountable in various positions

The knife comes with a Secure-Ex sheath made of lightweight, durable, and weather-resistant material. The sheath securely holds the knife in place thanks to a custom-fit opening and a snap-fastening loop, which prevents accidental slippage. The loop allows for attachment to a belt, and numerous holes and grommets enable multi-position mounting on a belt or other pieces of gear.

Secure-Ex feature
Secure-Ex
Secure-Ex is a system developed by Cold Steel, designed for the safe storage and convenient carrying of knives and tools. Sheaths made with this technology are lightweight, durable, and weather-resistant, making them suitable even for intensive use. They hold the knife securely in the sheath while allowing for quick and smooth draw. The system has a modular design - the sheaths can be supplemented with various fasteners, such as buckles, clips (e.g., C-Clip) or ball chains. This allows the knife to be worn on a belt, around the neck, or in other configurations, according to the user's preferences.
52100 feature
52100
52100 is an American bearing steel with a carbon content of 0.98-1.1%, valued in cutlery for its strength, resistance to chipping, and ability to maintain sharpness. The chromium content (1.3-1.6%) improves abrasion resistance and aids the hardening process. It also contains manganese (0.25-0.45%) and silicon (0.15-0.35%), which increase the strength and elasticity of the steel. After proper hardening, the steel reaches a hardness of 62-64 HRC, making it an ideal material for the production of bushcraft, survival, and hunting knives. Although it is not stainless steel and requires proper maintenance and protective coatings, its cutting properties and wear resistance make it one of the best choices among traditional carbon steels.

The knife commands respect and is aesthetically made. For bushcraft enthusiasts, it will probably not be useful (because of the double-edged blade, e.g., batoning, drilling holes, etc. is rather out of the question). I am a collector of knives, which is why I purchased this type of knife. Its main purpose is tactical use. That's how I see it. There is one very serious flaw: after a few times pulling the knife out, the sheath does not 'hold' the blade. It requires additional securing for your own safety, or replacing the sheath with another one. As you can see, the knife requires conscious use (as does every other knife).
