Cold Steel Hold Out S35VN Serrated 6" Black Folding Knife

Purpose-built for everyday carry (EDC) as well as tactical situations, this folding knife features a Spear-Point blade crafted from S35VN powder steel renowned for its exceptional corrosion resistance. The blade’s serrated edge sports a satin finish for a sleek look. Constructed with a black G10 laminate handle, it offers a secure, non-slip grip. Deployment is rapid and ambidextrous thanks to a double-sided thumb stud, while the Tri-Ad Lock mechanism guarantees reliable and safe operation.

S35VN powder steel

Featuring a blade crafted from CPM S35VN powder steel, known for its exceptional corrosion resistance and impressive edge retention. Through proper heat treatment, the blade attains a hardness of 58-61 HRC, delivering lasting sharpness and dependable performance for routine tasks.

Spear-Point profile blade, satin finish

Equipped with a Spear-Point blade measuring 152 mm in length and 3.8 mm in thickness, the knife incorporates a serrated cutting edge and a flat grind. Perfect for slicing through ropes, nets, cords, and various fibrous materials, the blade features a satin finish for a semi-matte appearance, offering both visual appeal and enhanced resistance to scratches.

non-slip handle made of G10 laminate, steel clip

The handle utilizes a G10 laminate, built from multiple layers of fiberglass fused together with epoxy resin. This composite offers exceptional durability, notable resistance to moisture, and is lightweight. Featuring an ergonomically contoured grip with a non-slip texture, the handle ensures secure handling. Strategically placed holes lighten the overall structure and contribute to a contemporary design. A dedicated finger groove enhances tool control, maintaining reliability even when hands are wet or dirty. Along the spine of the blade, jimping (serrations) delivers stable thumb support and superior precision during cutting tasks.

A steel tip-up clip is included for convenient carry and can be repositioned to either side of the handle, accommodating both right- and left-handed users.

Tri-Ad Lock, double-sided stud

Featuring the Tri-Ad Lock mechanism, recognized as one of the most robust systems in folding knives, the knife delivers exceptional strength. The lock utilizes a stop pin that absorbs pressure from the blade, dispersing the force throughout the handle and safeguarding it against wear. Over time, the mechanism self-adjusts to ensure consistent lock strength. A double-sided thumb stud on the blade ensures rapid, one-handed deployment.

CPM S35VN feature
CPM S35VN
CPM S35VN is a stainless powder steel developed by Crucible Industries in collaboration with Chris Reeve, used in premium knives. It is an evolution of the popular S30V steel, offering a better balance between wear resistance, stainlessness, and ease of machining. Carbon (approx. 1.4%) is responsible for high hardness, while chromium (approx. 14%) gives the steel very good corrosion resistance, and vanadium (approx. 3%) extends edge life and improves cutting aggression. After hardening, it reaches 58-61 HRC, combining edge durability with fracture resistance. The steel retains its sharpness for a long time and is easy to sharpen, commonly used in EDC, outdoor, tactical, and collector's knives.
Tri-Ad Lock feature
Tri-Ad Lock
Tri-Ad Lock is a lock developed by Cold Steel and Andrew Demko, considered one of the strongest systems in folding knives. Its key element is a stop pin, which takes the pressure from the blade and distributes it to the handle, protecting the lock from wear and overload. The mechanism is designed to self-adjust over time, which maintains the reliability of the lock even after prolonged use. In tests, it has proven resistant to loads of up to hundreds of pounds, confirming its durability.
G10 feature
G10
G10 is a lightweight and extremely durable material, considered one of the best for knife production. It is created by pressure-pressing fiberglass with phenolic resin, which gives it high durability and resistance to mechanical damage. It is chemically inert, does not conduct electricity, and retains its properties at both low and high temperatures. In terms of parameters, it is similar to carbon fiber, but its production is much cheaper. G10 handles are manufactured by precision cutting and cutting, which increases the cost of processing but ensures a perfect fit and long knife life.
Satin feature
Satin
Satin finishing is one of the most popular blade finishes, achieved by grinding the steel with fine-grained abrasives. Parallel micro-scratches remain on the surface, giving the knife a technical, matte appearance. Satin finishing has both aesthetic and practical significance - a smoothed blade is easier to clean, and the slightly reduced friction promotes smoother cutting. Depending on the direction and intensity of polishing, different effects are achieved - from a matte finish to an almost mirror-like finish. Satin is valued in both utility and collector's knives because it emphasizes the structure and quality of the steel while maintaining functionality.

A solid knife, a very aesthetically pleasing knife – the picture does not reflect the beauty of the blade and the knife as a whole. In my opinion, it is highly underrated by the "knife community." CS folders with a 5.5 inch blade are considered "just big knives," but this one deserves the popular term "pocket sword." Great for lighter cleaning tasks (paper, cardboard, foil, textiles) as well as in the kitchen. Among all the folders of this brand that I own, this one has the stiffest lock; it required leaving the knife half-open for several hours a day to loosen up. As with other large CS folders, the main element of the TriAdLock lock required grinding the surface that touches the main blade due to visible marks from cutting/processing this part – fine longitudinal grooves caused audible and noticeable friction when opening the knife. It did not significantly affect the knife's "action," but it might bother some (personally, I like smooth knife operation and I tend to fix such things). If you have spare funds and find a promotion—I definitely recommend adding this model to your collection. (There is also a version with a smooth blade, without serrations.)

Ultra light and sharp as a razor. The serrated blade makes a phenomenal impression. SUPER THIN, easily slips into a pocket. Opens and closes very pleasantly. Just add a wave. A work of art. I can't take my eyes off it. It's beautiful. It took the leading place in my Cold Steel folder collection. Store service as usual, fast and efficient. 5/5. I recommend it.
