Cold Steel Mayhem AUS-10A Folding Knife

Featuring a folding design, this knife is equipped with a Clip-Point blade crafted from Japanese AUS-10A stainless steel, which offers exceptional resistance to both mechanical damage and corrosion. The blade features a flat grind and a refined satiny finish. An ergonomically contoured handle, built upon a steel framework with screwed-on black G10 glass-epoxy composite scales, provides a secure grip. Deployment is ensured through a double-sided thumb stud, while an Atlas Lock reliably secures the blade in the open position. A durable spring clip enables convenient attachment to a belt or the edge of a pocket.

AUS-10A stainless steel

Forged from Japanese AUS-10A stainless steel, the blade achieves a typical hardness of 58-61 HRC following heat treatment. Offering a blend of impressive resistance to corrosion and abrasion, this steel also stands out for its durable edge and ease of re-sharpening.

Clip-Point blade profile

The Clip-Point blade has a length of 159 mm and a thickness of 4 mm. Equipped with a flat grind, the blade delivers a smooth cutting edge. Its geometry is optimized for excellent cutting efficiency while also maintaining necessary strength for demanding applications. A satin finish provides the blade with an even, linear pattern, minimizes surface glare, and effectively masks minor scratches developed during use.

steel framework and G10 scales

An ergonomically contoured handle features a steel framework combined with scales crafted from black G10 glass-epoxy composite. Renowned for an excellent strength-to-weight ratio, this material also delivers superior resistance to environmental conditions. Integrated finger grooves and an anti-slip surface contribute to a secure grip. A hole at the handle's end permits attachment of a lanyard or securing cord.

Double-sided thumb stud, Atlas Lock

Deployment of the knife is achieved via a double-sided thumb stud for ambidextrous operation. Blade security is provided by an Atlas Lock, a double-sided sliding mechanism. In the open position, a stop pin engages, absorbing part of the force exerted on the blade and redirecting it to the handle, which helps to minimize strain on the locking system. This robust, load-distributing construction reduces friction between key components. To disengage the lock, simply slide the switch, enabling controlled and safe blade closure.

spring clip

A spring clip integrated into the handle guarantees everyday carry convenience, enabling secure attachment of the knife to a belt or the edge of a pocket. Designed for versatility, the clip is reversible and can be configured for both right- and left-handed operation.

Cold Steel is a renowned American brand of knives, machetes and tactical tools, founded in 1980 in Irving, California. The company has gained popularity thanks to innovative solutions such as Kraton® handles and American Tanto blades, which are appreciated by uniformed services and military enthusiasts. It has also introduced its own steel alloys, such as San Mai III®, which ensures high strength and wear resistance. Cold Steel has patented the Tri-Ad™ Lock blade locking mechanism, which guarantees safe use. The brand cooperates with renowned knifemakers, including the company's founder Lynn C. Thompson and Andrew Demko, whose passion and experience contribute to the high quality of the products.

AUS-10 feature
AUS-10
AUS-10 is a high-quality stainless steel produced by the Japanese company Aichi Steel, considered one of the best in the AUS steel series, used mainly in mid-range and high-end utility knives, produced mainly in Japan and Taiwan. The carbon content (0.95-1.1%) ensures high hardness, while chromium (13-14.5%) guarantees very good corrosion and abrasion resistance. The steel also contains manganese (up to 1%), silicon (up to 1%), phosphorus (up to 0.025%), and sulfur (up to 0.025%), which affect hardenability, impact strength, elasticity, and machinability, improving structural stability and maintaining mechanical properties. After hardening, the steel achieves a hardness of 58-61 HRC, offering an excellent balance between strength, edge retention, and ease of sharpening. It is comparable to 440C steel, differing in carbon content and the addition of vanadium, which improves structural homogeneity and increases abrasion resistance.
Atlas Lock feature
Atlas Lock
Atlas Lock is a modern Cold Steel lock, which in terms of durability brings folding knives closer to fixed blade models. The mechanism is based on two pins and a locking rod that distribute pressure evenly; the stop pin absorbs some of the blade's force, and the hidden spring is protected from dirt. The slider on the back of the handle allows for quick, two-way, and safe folding with one hand.
G10 feature
G10
G10 is a lightweight and extremely durable material, considered one of the best for knife production. It is created by pressure-pressing fiberglass with phenolic resin, which gives it high durability and resistance to mechanical damage. It is chemically inert, does not conduct electricity, and retains its properties at both low and high temperatures. In terms of parameters, it is similar to carbon fiber, but its production is much cheaper. G10 handles are manufactured by precision cutting and cutting, which increases the cost of processing but ensures a perfect fit and long knife life.
Satin feature
Satin
Satin finishing is one of the most popular blade finishes, achieved by grinding the steel with fine-grained abrasives. Parallel micro-scratches remain on the surface, giving the knife a technical, matte appearance. Satin finishing has both aesthetic and practical significance - a smoothed blade is easier to clean, and the slightly reduced friction promotes smoother cutting. Depending on the direction and intensity of polishing, different effects are achieved - from a matte finish to an almost mirror-like finish. Satin is valued in both utility and collector's knives because it emphasizes the structure and quality of the steel while maintaining functionality.
