Cold Steel Steel Tiger Karambit AUS-8A Knife

A karambit-style knife featuring a Full Tang build, created through a collaboration with Lynn C. Thompson and master knifemaker Steven Likarich. Outfitted with a Warncliff blade profile, crafted from AUS-8A stainless steel known for its reliable corrosion resistance. The handle, finished in black, incorporates Griv-Ex as the inner core combined with an outer layer of Kray-Ex.

AUS-8A Steel

Forged from Japanese AUS-8A steel, the blade retains its sharp edge over time and can be easily resharpened. Undergoing specialized heat treatment, the blade reaches a hardness of 58-60 HRC, delivering exceptional durability, impressive cutting performance, and reliable toughness.

Warncliff Blade Profile

The karambit is equipped with a curved, sickle-like blade featuring a Warncliff profile. With a blade length of 121 mm and a thickness of 5 mm, it showcases a Stonewash finish. This treatment effectively masks minor abrasions and signs of wear, while the matte surface reduces glare from reflected light.

Handle with Griv-Ex and Kray-Ex

The handle is seamlessly injection-molded onto the tang of the blade, featuring an inner core of Griv-Ex and an external layer made from Kray-Ex. Thanks to its ergonomic shape and non-slip texture, the knife remains easy to control, even when hands are wet or dirty. The handle's contour is engineered to reduce the likelihood of fingers sliding onto the blade. At the end, a finger ring enhances grip stability and provides an attachment point for a cord or lanyard.

Secure-Ex Sheath

Included in the set is a Secure-Ex sheath with a clip, enabling secure attachment of the knife to pants or equipment. The lightweight, weather-resistant design ensures a firm hold on the blade, significantly minimizing the chance of accidental loss.

Secure-Ex feature
Secure-Ex
Secure-Ex is a system developed by Cold Steel, designed for the safe storage and convenient carrying of knives and tools. Sheaths made with this technology are lightweight, durable, and weather-resistant, making them suitable even for intensive use. They hold the knife securely in the sheath while allowing for quick and smooth draw. The system has a modular design - the sheaths can be supplemented with various fasteners, such as buckles, clips (e.g., C-Clip) or ball chains. This allows the knife to be worn on a belt, around the neck, or in other configurations, according to the user's preferences.
Kray-Ex feature
Kray-Ex
Kray-Ex is a synthetic polymer with a rubber-like structure used by Cold Steel to manufacture knife handles. It is characterized by high adhesion and anti-slip properties, ensuring a secure grip even in high humidity, low temperatures, and with dirty hands. The material is flexible and absorbs shocks well, which increases comfort of use. Kray-Ex is also resistant to cracking, abrasion, chemicals, and adverse weather conditions, making handles made of this material durable and virtually maintenance-free. Cold Steel uses it in tactical, survival, and utility knives.
AUS-8A feature
AUS-8A
AUS-8A is a Japanese stainless steel, equivalent to 440B steel, characterized by a good balance between corrosion resistance, ease of sharpening, and edge retention. The carbon content (0.7-0.75%) affects the hardness of the steel, while chromium (13-14.5%) provides very good corrosion and abrasion resistance. Vanadium additives (up to 0.26%) improve the homogeneity of the steel's crystal structure and increase the blade's resistance to abrasion. The steel also contains molybdenum (0.1-0.3%), manganese (0.5%), silicon (0.4-1%), and nickel (0.49%). After proper heat treatment, AUS-8 steel achieves a hardness of 58-60 HRC, making it a solid material with good cutting properties and durability. The steel is widely used in mid-range knives, mainly produced in Japan and Taiwan, such as the popular Ontario RAT 1.
Stonewash feature
Stonewash
Stonewash is a blade finishing technique that involves treating steel in a drum filled with stones, ceramic abrasives, or beads. The impact of the material creates a characteristic, irregular pattern with micro-scratches, giving the effect of a matte, slightly “aged” surface with a raw, practical appearance. The finish gives the knife an aesthetic look and masks minor scratches and marks that occur during use, keeping the blade looking like new for longer. The matte texture reduces light reflections, which is valued in tactical and outdoor knives, and the micro-scratches can further reduce friction during cutting. Due to its durability, discreet appearance, and ease of maintenance, stonewash is popular in EDC, field, and tactical knives.
Griv-Ex feature
Griv-Ex
Griv-Ex is a durable glass-nylon composite reinforced with fiberglass used by Cold Steel, mainly for the production of knife handles, and in some models also for blade components. The material has a textured surface on the handles, which ensures a secure, non-slip grip, and its maintenance usually boils down to simple washing under running water. Griv-Ex is distinguished by its resistance to moisture, corrosion, mechanical damage, and extreme temperatures, and does not warp or crack under harsh conditions. When used in the construction of blades, it is additionally stabilized by UV rays and heat, which further increases its durability.

Simply a brilliant knife, very sharp and strong, on top of that a truly impressive look and decent size, the handle wrapped in camouflage material is practically invisible when sticking out of camouflaged pants pocket, allowing for easy and quick drawing.

I confirm the previous opinion. I have a comparison with the DoubleAgent karambit. This one, however, is a real brute and excellently made.
