Cold Steel Steel Tiger Karambit AUS-8A Knife

A karambit-style knife with a Full Tang construction, designed in collaboration with Lynn C. Thompson and knife maker Steven Likarich. The Warncliff-profile blade is made of AUS-8A stainless steel, which offers good corrosion resistance. The black handle is made of Griv-Ex (inner layer) and Kray-Ex (outer layer).

AUS-8A Steel

The blade is made of Japanese AUS-8A steel, which retains its sharpness for a long time and is easy to resharpen. After heat treatment, it achieves a hardness of 58–60 HRC, making it a sturdy material with good cutting performance and durability.

Warncliff Blade Profile

The karambit features a curved, sickle-shaped blade with a Warncliff profile. The blade, which is 121 mm long and 5 mm thick, has a Stonewash finish. This finish hides minor scratches and marks that develop during use, and its matte texture reduces light reflections.

Handle with Griv-Ex and Kray-Ex

The handle is injection-molded directly onto the blade tang and consists of an inner layer of Griv-Ex and an outer layer of Kray-Ex. The ergonomic profile and non-slip texture make it easier to control the knife even with wet or dirty hands. The handle profile is designed to reduce the risk of fingers slipping onto the blade. The end features a finger loop that stabilizes the grip and can serve as a point for threading a cord or lanyard.

Secure-Ex Sheath

The set includes a Secure-Ex plastic sheath, equipped with a clip that allows you to attach the knife to your pants or accouterments. The lightweight and weather-resistant design holds the knife securely in place, reducing the risk of it accidentally falling out.

Cold Steel is a respected American brand of knives, machetes, and tactical tools, founded in 1980 in Irving, California. The company gained popularity thanks to innovative solutions such as Kraton® handles and American Tanto blades, appreciated by uniformed services and military enthusiasts. It also introduced its own steel alloys, such as San Mai III®, which provides high durability and wear resistance. Cold Steel patented the Tri-Ad™ Lock blade locking mechanism, which guarantees safe use. The brand works with respected knifemakers, including the company's founder Lynn C. Thompson and Andrew Demko, whose passion and experience contribute to the high quality of the products.

Secure-Ex feature
Secure-Ex
Secure-Ex is a system developed by Cold Steel, designed for the safe storage and convenient carrying of knives and tools. Sheaths made with this technology are lightweight, durable, and weather-resistant, making them suitable even for intensive use. They hold the knife securely in the sheath while allowing for quick and smooth draw. The system has a modular design - the sheaths can be supplemented with various fasteners, such as buckles, clips (e.g., C-Clip) or ball chains. This allows the knife to be worn on a belt, around the neck, or in other configurations, according to the user's preferences.
Kray-Ex feature
Kray-Ex
Kray-Ex is a synthetic polymer with a rubber-like structure used by Cold Steel to manufacture knife handles. It is characterized by high adhesion and anti-slip properties, ensuring a secure grip even in high humidity, low temperatures, and with dirty hands. The material is flexible and absorbs shocks well, which increases comfort of use. Kray-Ex is also resistant to cracking, abrasion, chemicals, and adverse weather conditions, making handles made of this material durable and virtually maintenance-free. Cold Steel uses it in tactical, survival, and utility knives.
AUS-8A feature
AUS-8A
AUS-8A is a Japanese stainless steel, equivalent to 440B steel, characterized by a good balance between corrosion resistance, ease of sharpening, and edge retention. The carbon content (0.7-0.75%) affects the hardness of the steel, while chromium (13-14.5%) provides very good corrosion and abrasion resistance. Vanadium additives (up to 0.26%) improve the homogeneity of the steel's crystal structure and increase the blade's resistance to abrasion. The steel also contains molybdenum (0.1-0.3%), manganese (0.5%), silicon (0.4-1%), and nickel (0.49%). After proper heat treatment, AUS-8 steel achieves a hardness of 58-60 HRC, making it a solid material with good cutting properties and durability. The steel is widely used in mid-range knives, mainly produced in Japan and Taiwan, such as the popular Ontario RAT 1.
Stonewash feature
Stonewash
Stonewash is a blade finishing technique that involves treating steel in a drum filled with stones, ceramic abrasives, or beads. The impact of the material creates a characteristic, irregular pattern with micro-scratches, giving the effect of a matte, slightly “aged” surface with a raw, practical appearance. The finish gives the knife an aesthetic look and masks minor scratches and marks that occur during use, keeping the blade looking like new for longer. The matte texture reduces light reflections, which is valued in tactical and outdoor knives, and the micro-scratches can further reduce friction during cutting. Due to its durability, discreet appearance, and ease of maintenance, stonewash is popular in EDC, field, and tactical knives.
Griv-Ex feature
Griv-Ex
Griv-Ex is a durable glass-nylon composite reinforced with fiberglass used by Cold Steel, mainly for the production of knife handles, and in some models also for blade components. The material has a textured surface on the handles, which ensures a secure, non-slip grip, and its maintenance usually boils down to simple washing under running water. Griv-Ex is distinguished by its resistance to moisture, corrosion, mechanical damage, and extreme temperatures, and does not warp or crack under harsh conditions. When used in the construction of blades, it is additionally stabilized by UV rays and heat, which further increases its durability.

Simply a brilliant knife, very sharp and strong, on top of that a truly impressive look and decent size, the handle wrapped in camouflage material is practically invisible when sticking out of camouflaged pants pocket, allowing for easy and quick drawing.

I confirm the previous opinion. I have a comparison with the DoubleAgent karambit. This one, however, is a real brute and excellently made.

The best on the market in Poland right now... CS in the karambit is a piece of knife, I recommend it for those already familiar with claw techniques as the main role... one hundred percent satisfaction
