Cold Steel Tai Pan CPM 3V Dagger

Robust tactical knife featuring a Full Tang design, created by Lynn C. Thompson, founder and CEO of Cold Steel. The blade sports a Spear-Point profile and is crafted from CPM-3V powder steel, ensuring exceptional wear resistance. Enhanced by a satin polish finish, the blade stands out in both appearance and durability. The black handle, constructed from Kray-Ex material, provides a secure grip with its non-slip texture. Included in the package is a sheath utilizing the Secure-Ex system, allowing for easy and versatile belt or gear attachment.

CPM-3V powder steel

Forged from CPM 3V powder steel, the blade boasts solid corrosion resistance, despite not being classified as stainless steel. Through specialized heat treatment, the blade attains a hardness of 58-61 HRC, delivering an optimal combination of strength, toughness, and ease of sharpening.

Satin-finished Spear-Point blade

Equipped with a double-edged blade, the knife features a Spear-Point profile measuring 190 mm in length and 5 mm in thickness. A plain cutting edge combined with a concave grind ensures reliable performance. The optimized blade geometry delivers outstanding piercing capabilities while preserving exceptional strength. Finished using a satin technique, the blade sports a semi-matte finish that effectively reduces glare.

Kray-Ex grip with a non-slip texture

The handle of the knife, finished in black, is crafted from Kray-Ex plastic with pronounced texturing, ensuring a firm and safe grip even when hands are wet or soiled. Featuring a Full Tang construction, the tang extends the full length of the handle and is only marginally slimmer than the handle itself. A disk-shaped cross guard effectively prevents fingers from sliding onto the blade. At the end of the handle is a steel pommel, which functions as a practical glass breaker and can be used as an improvised tool in the field. A lanyard or safety cord can also be threaded through the integrated hole in the handle.

Secure-Ex system holster

The knife comes equipped with a sheath utilizing the Secure-Ex system, crafted from a lightweight yet robust material that withstands tough weather conditions. Secure retention is achieved through a precision-molded inlet along with a snap-fastened loop, reducing the risk of the knife being dropped unintentionally. Featuring a loop for belt attachment and multiple holes and grommets, the sheath offers versatile mounting options to a belt or other gear components.

Secure-Ex feature
Secure-Ex
Secure-Ex is a system developed by Cold Steel, designed for the safe storage and convenient carrying of knives and tools. Sheaths made with this technology are lightweight, durable, and weather-resistant, making them suitable even for intensive use. They hold the knife securely in the sheath while allowing for quick and smooth draw. The system has a modular design - the sheaths can be supplemented with various fasteners, such as buckles, clips (e.g., C-Clip) or ball chains. This allows the knife to be worn on a belt, around the neck, or in other configurations, according to the user's preferences.
Kray-Ex feature
Kray-Ex
Kray-Ex is a synthetic polymer with a rubber-like structure used by Cold Steel to manufacture knife handles. It is characterized by high adhesion and anti-slip properties, ensuring a secure grip even in high humidity, low temperatures, and with dirty hands. The material is flexible and absorbs shocks well, which increases comfort of use. Kray-Ex is also resistant to cracking, abrasion, chemicals, and adverse weather conditions, making handles made of this material durable and virtually maintenance-free. Cold Steel uses it in tactical, survival, and utility knives.
CPM 3V feature
CPM 3V
CPM 3V is a premium powder tool steel produced by Crucible Industries, known for its high resistance to impact, fracture, and wear. It contains 0.8% carbon, 7.5% chromium, and additions of molybdenum (1.3%), vanadium (2.75%), manganese (up to 1%), and silicon (up to 1%) additives, which improve wear resistance and structural stability. After heat treatment, it achieves a hardness of 58-61 HRC, providing a balance between strength, durability, and ease of sharpening. Although CPM 3V is not stainless steel, it offers good corrosion resistance and is widely used in the manufacture of military, survival, and hunting knives. It is suitable for intensive use in harsh conditions, combining high wear resistance, better ductility, and longer edge retention compared to other tool steels.
Satin feature
Satin
Satin finishing is one of the most popular blade finishes, achieved by grinding the steel with fine-grained abrasives. Parallel micro-scratches remain on the surface, giving the knife a technical, matte appearance. Satin finishing has both aesthetic and practical significance - a smoothed blade is easier to clean, and the slightly reduced friction promotes smoother cutting. Depending on the direction and intensity of polishing, different effects are achieved - from a matte finish to an almost mirror-like finish. Satin is valued in both utility and collector's knives because it emphasizes the structure and quality of the steel while maintaining functionality.
