Cold Steel Verdict Tanto 4116SS Folding Knife - Black

A folding knife designed for everyday carry (EDC) and tactical applications. The Tanto-profile blade is made of 4116SS stainless steel, which offers excellent corrosion resistance. The smooth blade features a Stonewash finish. The black handle is made of G10 laminate with a non-slip texture. The knife opens using a double-sided thumb stud, and the Tri-Ad Lock ensures safe use.

4116SS Stainless Steel

The blade is made of durable 4116SS stainless steel, which is highly resistant to corrosion, easy to sharpen, and has a long-lasting cutting edge. After hardening, it achieves a hardness of 55–57 HRC.

tanto blade with stonewash finish

The blade, with a Tanto profile, is 79 mm long and 3 mm thick. It features a smooth cutting edge achieved through a flat grind. The blade’s geometry ensures high cutting efficiency while maintaining adequate strength, allowing for more intensive use of the knife. The blade’s Stonewash finish leaves an irregular coating that masks scratches that develop during use.

non-slip G10 laminate handle, steel clip

The ergonomically contoured handle is made entirely of durable G10 glass-epoxy laminate, consisting of two thick halves joined by screws and reinforced with a back spacer. The textured surface of the G10 enhances grip, which, combined with the ergonomic profile, ensures a secure hold. A spring-loaded clip on the handle ensures convenience for everyday carrying, allowing the knife to be clipped to a belt or the edge of a pocket. The clip is reversible and can be mounted to suit both right- and left-handed users. A hole at the end of the handle allows a safety cord or lanyard to be threaded through it.

Tri-Ad Lock, double-sided thumb stud

The knife is equipped with the Tri-Ad Lock system, considered one of the strongest locking mechanisms in folding knives. The lock relies on a stop pin that absorbs pressure from the blade, distributing it to the handle and protecting it from wear. The mechanism self-adjusts over time, ensuring a reliable lock. The blade features a double-sided thumb stud, which allows for quick, one-handed opening of the knife.

Cold Steel is a respected American brand of knives, machetes, and tactical tools, founded in 1980 in Irving, California. The company gained popularity thanks to innovative solutions such as Kraton® handles and American Tanto blades, appreciated by uniformed services and military enthusiasts. It also introduced its own steel alloys, such as San Mai III®, which provides high durability and wear resistance. Cold Steel patented the Tri-Ad™ Lock blade locking mechanism, which guarantees safe use. The brand works with respected knifemakers, including the company's founder Lynn C. Thompson and Andrew Demko, whose passion and experience contribute to the high quality of the products.

4116SS feature
4116SS
4116SS steel is the commercial name for high-quality 1.4116 stainless steel from the German DIN group, widely used in kitchen knives and medical tools. The carbon content (0.45-0.55%) ensures good hardness and edge durability, while chromium (14-15%) guarantees high resistance to corrosion and oxidation. The steel also contains molybdenum (up to 0.6%), vanadium (up to 0.2%), manganese (up to 1%), silicon (up to 1%), and a small amount of nickel (up to 1%). It achieves a hardness of 55-57 HRC after appropriate heat treatment, which allows for knives with good cutting properties, easy maintenance, and corrosion resistance.
Tri-Ad Lock feature
Tri-Ad Lock
Tri-Ad Lock is a lock developed by Cold Steel and Andrew Demko, considered one of the strongest systems in folding knives. Its key element is a stop pin, which takes the pressure from the blade and distributes it to the handle, protecting the lock from wear and overload. The mechanism is designed to self-adjust over time, which maintains the reliability of the lock even after prolonged use. In tests, it has proven resistant to loads of up to hundreds of pounds, confirming its durability.
G10 feature
G10
G10 is a lightweight and extremely durable material, considered one of the best for knife production. It is created by pressure-pressing fiberglass with phenolic resin, which gives it high durability and resistance to mechanical damage. It is chemically inert, does not conduct electricity, and retains its properties at both low and high temperatures. In terms of parameters, it is similar to carbon fiber, but its production is much cheaper. G10 handles are manufactured by precision cutting and cutting, which increases the cost of processing but ensures a perfect fit and long knife life.
Stonewash feature
Stonewash
Stonewash is a blade finishing technique that involves treating steel in a drum filled with stones, ceramic abrasives, or beads. The impact of the material creates a characteristic, irregular pattern with micro-scratches, giving the effect of a matte, slightly “aged” surface with a raw, practical appearance. The finish gives the knife an aesthetic look and masks minor scratches and marks that occur during use, keeping the blade looking like new for longer. The matte texture reduces light reflections, which is valued in tactical and outdoor knives, and the micro-scratches can further reduce friction during cutting. Due to its durability, discreet appearance, and ease of maintenance, stonewash is popular in EDC, field, and tactical knives.
