Levenhuk Kelvin Snap ED Binoculars 8x42

Digital camera binoculars with objective lenses measuring 42 mm in diameter, equipped with 8x optical magnification and digital magnification from 1 to 10x available in the mobile app. It features a roof optical system with ED glass and a Fully Multi-Coated (FMC) full multi-layer coating, and the sealed construction meets the IP65 standard. The model allows taking photos and recording videos, transmitting the image via Wi-Fi, and working with mobile devices, and the set also includes a case.

ED optical system and Fully Multi-Coated coating

The optical system uses ED glass, which reduces chromatic aberration and helps achieve an image with natural colour reproduction. The eyepieces consist of 4 elements in 3 groups, as do the objective lenses. The optical elements are coated with a Fully Multi-Coated (FMC) full multi-layer coating, which reduces light loss and helps achieve a bright, clear image.

The optical magnification is 8x. In the mobile app, you can also use digital magnification from 1 to 10x, which allows a maximum magnification of up to 80x.

The field of view is 7.2 degrees, which means 131 m at a distance of 1000 m, and the minimum focusing distance is 4 m. The eyepiece dioptre correction is adjusted within a range of 4 dioptres in both directions, while focus is adjusted centrally.

The exit pupil diameter is 5.36 mm, which defines the diameter of the beam of light reaching the eye. The twilight factor of 18.33 and relative brightness of 28.73 describe the system properties related to observation in lower light conditions. The eye relief is 17 mm, and the resolution threshold is 5.2 arc seconds.

Photo and video recording, Wi-Fi

Image recording is handled by a colour CMOS sensor in 4:3 format. The camera binoculars allow taking photos at a resolution of up to 16 Mpix in JPEG format and recording videos in MP4 format. Video material can be saved in 2K or Full HD quality, including at resolutions of 2560 x 1440 and 1920 x 1080 at 30 fps.

Built-in 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi enables live image transmission to mobile devices within a range of approximately 10–15 m in line of sight. Through the Viipulse app, the image can be transmitted simultaneously to up to 3 smartphones running Android or iOS, and photos can be taken, videos recorded, and digital magnification used.

The device is equipped with a microphone and speaker, a playback function, automatic shut-off after 5 minutes, and the ability to add a date and time watermark to the image. Files are saved to a TF card with a capacity of up to 128 GB.

Sealed IP65 construction and nitrogen filling

The body is made of black plastic. The hermetic construction has been filled with nitrogen, which reduces the risk of the internal optical elements fogging up during temperature changes.

The IP65 protection rating means complete protection against dust and resistance to water jets. The device operating temperature range is from -10 to +50 degrees Celsius.

Twist-up eyecups make it easier to adjust to the viewing method, also for people who wear glasses. The interpupillary distance can be adjusted within a range of 56–73 mm. The body is equipped with a standard 1/4" thread, allowing tripod mounting using the adapter included in the set.

The camera binoculars weigh 530 g, and their dimensions are 14 x 7 x 12 cm. The neck strap makes the device easier to carry, while the included case protects it during transport.

4000 mAh battery and up to 10 hours of operation

The camera binoculars are powered by a built-in 4000 mAh lithium-ion battery, providing up to 10 hours of operation. Charging is via a USB-C port using a 5 V, 2 A power adapter. The power adapter is sold separately.

CMOS feature
CMOS
CMOS (Complementary Metal-Oxide-Semiconductor) matrix is a type of photosensitive matrix used in cameras, camcorders, night vision binoculars and other image capturing devices. Its task is to convert light coming through the lens into electrical signals, which are then converted into digital images. CMOS matrices are characterized by low power consumption and high readout speed, making them a popular choice for modern optical systems.
ED Lenses feature
ED Lenses
ED (Extra-low Dispersion) lenses are optical elements made of low-dispersion glass, used in high-end optical devices. Their main function is to reduce chromatic aberration, which is the splitting of light manifested by colored borders around contrasting objects. With ED lenses, the image is clearer, sharper and has better color reproduction - especially at the edges of the field of view and when observing high-contrast objects.
FMC - Fully MultiCoated feature
FMC - Fully MultiCoated
FMC (Fully MultiCoated) is a technology used in optical devices to apply multi-layer anti-reflective coatings to all lens surfaces in contact with air. This solution effectively reduces reflections and light loss, improving brightness, contrast and image clarity. The increased light transmission translates into a sharper and more detailed image, which is crucial when observing in limited light conditions.
