LKW Mauler Micarta Fixed Blade Knife by Radosław Łęgowik

Medium-sized, durable and lightweight knife featuring a Full Tang construction. The Drop-Point blade is made of O2 Bohler K720 steel, known for its easy sharpening, good edge retention, and high corrosion resistance. The design and execution of this model are the work of Polish knifemaker Radosław Łęgowik. It serves well as a knife for bushcraft expeditions, setting up camp, or preparing meals in nature.

Polish design

Radosław Łęgowik is a Polish knife maker and founder of the brand LKW - Libra Knife Works. Since 2007, he has been handcrafting knives based on his own designs - each piece is crafted in his workshop with full process control, including quenching and heat treatment. The offer includes both tactical knives with a modern style and fully functional survival knives.

O2 Bohler K720 tool steel

The knife is made of high-carbon O2 Bohler K720 tool steel hardened to a hardness of 59 HRC. The used material combined with precise heat treatment is characterized by high durability, crack resistance, and good edge retention. Additionally, this steel is easy to sharpen even in field conditions, which is particularly important for an outdoor and bushcraft knife.

Drop-Point profile, full flat grind

The blade with a length of 97 mm and a thickness of 4.4 mm has a Drop-Point shape and a clearly defined belly, increasing tool efficiency during cutting. The edge is produced with a full flat grind, which reduces the weight of the construction, and its profile ensures good ergonomics during work. The applied geometry gives the knife excellent cutting properties and it will also perform well in a camp kitchen. The blade surface is finished using the Stonewash method, providing a more matte appearance and making scratches from use less visible.

Micarta handle, cross guard, lanyard hole

The ergonomically shaped handle made of Micarta, a durable and waterproof epoxy resin-based material, provides a firm and secure grip in all conditions. The handle is additionally equipped with a cross guard to prevent hand slipping onto the blade during knife use. The rear part of the handle has a lanyard hole for a security cord.

rigid Kydex sheath, belt loop

The set includes a rigid sheath made of lightweight and damage-resistant Kydex material. The holes and pass-throughs located on each side of the sheath allow for multi-positional attachment to gear. A belt loop is placed at the back of the sheath for belt mounting.

O2 feature
O2
O2 is a medium carbon tool steel (approximately 0.9%) characterized by good hardness, abrasion resistance, and strength. Its carbon content ensures high hardness in the range of 58-60 HRC after appropriate heat treatment, which allows for a durable cutting edge. This steel also contains small amounts of manganese (0.3%) and silicon (0.2%), which improves its hardenability and structural stability. O2 is relatively easy to machine, making it a popular choice for the manufacture of cutting tools, industrial knives, files, and cutting tools. It is susceptible to corrosion and therefore requires proper maintenance and protection against rust. Due to its abrasive properties and hardness, O2 steel is mainly used in work tools that require wear resistance.
Kydex feature
Kydex
Kydex is a thermoplastic, durable material commonly used in the production of knife sheaths. It is resistant to impact, scratches, and changing weather conditions, and has very low moisture absorption. The sheaths are molded directly onto the knife, which guarantees a perfect fit, high durability, and complete safety—the blade remains securely in place even during dynamic movements. Due to its durability and customization options, Kydex has gained popularity in the tactical and survival industries. Sheaths are often equipped with additional mounting holes with metal eyelets, which increase their durability and allow for easy attachment of buckles, clips, or loops to a belt or harness.
Stonewash feature
Stonewash
Stonewash is a blade finishing technique that involves treating steel in a drum filled with stones, ceramic abrasives, or beads. The impact of the material creates a characteristic, irregular pattern with micro-scratches, giving the effect of a matte, slightly “aged” surface with a raw, practical appearance. The finish gives the knife an aesthetic look and masks minor scratches and marks that occur during use, keeping the blade looking like new for longer. The matte texture reduces light reflections, which is valued in tactical and outdoor knives, and the micro-scratches can further reduce friction during cutting. Due to its durability, discreet appearance, and ease of maintenance, stonewash is popular in EDC, field, and tactical knives.
Micarta feature
Micarta
Micarta is a composite material made of layers of fabric (including canvas, linen, and paper) soaked in resin and pressed under high pressure and temperature. It is characterized by high mechanical strength, resistance to impact, abrasion, and changing weather conditions, as well as dimensional stability, which makes it ideal for knife handles. The surface of Micarta provides a secure grip and can be finished smooth or left with a slight texture to improve control over the tool. The material does not conduct heat or electricity, tolerates contact with moisture well, and acquires a characteristic patina over time, emphasizing the individual style of the knife. Thanks to its combination of durability, environmental resistance, and unique appearance, Micarta is widely used in EDC, outdoor, and collector's knives.

The knife description does not fully match the actual condition, for example the blade thickness is not 4.4 mm but 3 mm, and the handle is just so-so in terms of craftsmanship. The knife is actually good for kitchen as well as camping tasks due to the shape of the blade and its durability. The price is not entirely adequate for the product. In summary, it's worth having it outdoors.

Great knife at a very reasonable price. Materials are of very good quality. The workmanship may not have Swiss precision, but this is a knife for heavy-duty work, not for display cases. I recommend it.
