A plastic casing holds a glass vial filled with a chemical agent and colored dye, which interact when the vial is snapped. Mixing the contents initiates a chemical reaction that emits light, with no production of heat involved.

    Well... it shines. An ordinary, not very bright chemical light. The brightness decreases quite regularly over time, so the declared lighting time is a bit overstated, although of course there are still remnants of light even after a longer period.

    The lights are just lights. They work, but mine don't shine for 8-12 hours. The size is a plus and the ability to attach them to a backpack etc. At a promotional price, they are worth buying. I recommend them.
