A generously sized yet remarkably lightweight folding knife featuring a 15 cm locking blade. This is a timeless piece from the renowned French brand, boasting more than a century of craftsmanship. The Opinel edition offers a slender blade profile while maintaining the traditional handle design.

Featuring an upswept blade (with an elevated tip), constructed from Swedish Sandvik 12C27 stainless steel and polished to a semi-matte finish. Expert hardening delivers excellent edge retention and facilitates straightforward resharpening. The blade utilizes a full-flat grind nearing a zero-grind, and its slim construction delivers outstanding cutting efficiency. The blade profile is ideal for tasks like filleting.

Blade deployment is achieved by using a notch, reminiscent of Victorinox pocket knives. Once opened, the blade is secured by the Viroblock locking system—an innovation from 1955. A steel ring at the blade pivot rotates to shield the slot in the handle, effectively locking the blade in place. When folded, the same mechanism prevents accidental opening.

Crafted from beech wood, the handle features an ergonomic contour for a comfortable, warm hold. Its design also accommodates easy customization, such as drilling a lanyard hole at the rear or applying personalized textures, carvings, or stains in any chosen color.

Perfect for anglers who appreciate tradition and authentic materials, this knife is a reliable fishing companion.

Opinel is a French knife brand whose history dates back to 1890 in Savoy. The founder, Joseph Opinel, created the first folding knife, No. 08, which quickly became a symbol of everyday use thanks to its simplicity and functionality. In 1955, the Virobloc locking system was introduced, later modernized, which is still the hallmark of the brand today. In 1985, Opinel was recognized by the Victoria and Albert Museum as one of the 100 best-designed objects in the world, and the brand's knives also found their way into the MoMA collection in New York. Production takes place in Chambery, with an emphasis on quality and ecology - the wood comes from French forests and the waste is used to heat the factory. Among the famous users was Pablo Picasso, who used Opinel for carving, and the knives themselves have become a symbol of simplicity, durability, and the French lifestyle.

Long, large, but with a thin and precise blade, the knife is especially good for filleting and processing meat. The folding mechanism works flawlessly, the lock works as it should, and has never failed.

I already have two in other sizes. I bought this because I really needed a very sharp, long knife.

The quality of Opinel, so there isn't much to describe. Very long and thin, sharp blade, perfect for filleting or preparing meals. However, if I bought it again, I would definitely choose the shorter version.
