Simple and reliable Virobloc locking mechanism
In the open position, the blade is secured by the Virobloc locking mechanism, which was patented in 1955. This lock consists of a steel collar fitted to the handle, positioned at the blade’s pivot. Once the knife is unfolded, simply rotate the ring a few degrees so it covers the slot at the base of the blade, locking the blade in place to prevent movement. The mechanism also safeguards against accidental opening when the knife is closed. A notch on the blade, much like those found on Victorinox pocket knives, enables easy opening.
Contoured handle made of oak wood
The handle is crafted from oak wood, designed ergonomically to ensure a secure and warm hold. A notable feature of the handle is its ease of customization. A nice tool for mushroom pickers. The knife itself is light, simple and 'without gimmicks.' The wooden handle fits well in the hand, although when it gets wet, it becomes a bit slippery. The locking mechanism is typical for Opinel – it works, but it’s not a super-fast system. Negative? This is rather a knife for one specific use – it’s not suitable for bushcraft or heavier work.
