Snugpak Enhanced Patrol Poncho - Olive

Poncho in olive color, providing full rain protection for the user. Its generous fit allows not only to be worn freely on a backpack, but also to be used as a makeshift shelter in emergency situations. The set includes a carry bag, which makes it easy to store and carry the poncho.

water-resistantPU coating, DWR waterproofing

The poncho is made of lightweight and durable nylon protected by a water-resistant PU coating. Its outer surface has been additionally waterproofed with a DWR layer, which makes water run down the surface of the material without soaking into the fabric. Taped seams reduce the risk of leaks even during heavy rainfall.

Large hood with drawstring, elastic thumb openings

The poncho is equipped with a large hood with a drawstring, which facilitates a snug fit and limits water access. A wide pocket with a Velcro-fastened flap has been placed on the chest for quick access to handy items. For better stability in windy conditions, elastic thumbholes have been used to keep the poncho in place.

Three stars for the cut and the ingenuity of the design. Simple, roomy, without unnecessary gimmicks or complicated tailoring. You can easily wear some kind of city backpack under it; up to about 30 liters is very easy, and maybe even a bit more, and it won’t affect wearing comfort or the area protected from water. The short sleeves and monkey paws (thumb loops) are a nice idea, but there is a downside. The loops can be used without problems by people up to about 175 cm tall, maybe up to 180, but then it will already start pulling a bit and digging into the thumb. From 185 cm upward, we won’t be able to use the loops; I mean, technically you can, but you won’t be able to straighten your arm. The sleeves will also become too short. Unfortunately, the "little coat" was returned because of the poor, very badly made seam taping. Along practically the entire length of the hood attachment there were air bubbles under the seam-sealing tape. The rest of the stitching was no better. It looked as if it was stale, old. I had a similar effect on an old rain jacket where the membrane had already started to slowly delaminate and the seam "seal" had started to come off in exactly the same way. Such sealing will not hold and it will leak there. So either it had been lying folded in the packaging somewhere for a bit too long, or the "snail" did not do a good job with quality control. With "gear" at this price, something like this should not happen. This is the first time I have been disappointed in the company with the shell logo. That is why I hope the reason was that the "little coat" had spent far too much time somewhere in a warehouse before it was sent to the seller, and not the quality control, because I have a set of their jackets and I am extremely satisfied with them, and here this was such a letdown.
