After 20 years I bought again, the non-"2" version, with a standard liner-lock and thumb lock click. For years I used the light-colored version, but now I chose the black one and got a spare light-colored one for retirement, so I can find it in a few decades. The knife has only positives – from weight, handiness, blade shaping, full flat grind, comfort of carrying in the pocket (well-made clip), ease of maneuvering and cutting, etc. Only one minus in my opinion – steel that's a bit too brittle (only 4/10 according to bladehq), and once I broke the tip. I reprofiled the blade and it was fine again – but this time I'm more careful not to use a construction made for cutting for anything else.
Spyderco’s flagship folding knife. The C36 Military model has been in production since 1996 and stands as a benchmark among classic folding combat-utility knives.
The handle features two robust scales made from G10 laminate alongside a single steel liner, which mainly functions as the lock and offers extra reinforcement for the blade's pivot. Such a configuration brings exceptional strength and adequate rigidity to the handle with minimal overall weight. Assembly is secured with Torx screws.
Boasting a large and ergonomically shaped handle, a variety of grip positions are possible. The moderately aggressive texture of the scales ensures a reliable non-slip hold, while remaining gentle enough to prevent excess wear on pocket edges when drawing or storing the knife.
Equipped with a modified clip-point blade profile, the knife features a blade made from state-of-the-art CPM S30V stainless steel. This material is widely acknowledged as a premier high-performance blade steel, created via powder metallurgy for enhanced composition and mechanical properties that surpass conventional steelmaking.
A full flat grind is applied to the blade, delivering outstanding slicing and cutting capability.
A prominent thumb hole, a patented Spyderco feature, is integrated for smooth, ambidextrous one-handed opening—even with gloves on.
The blade mechanism is secured by a robust and dependable liner lock. Thanks to its nested-liner design, the lock offers increased stiffness, reducing the risk of accidental disengagement.
Everyday carry is made simple and secure with a spring clip on the handle, enabling attachment to belts or the edge of a pocket.
Ideal for law enforcement professionals and individuals seeking a substantial folding knife that delivers both as a daily work tool and as a reliable self-defense option.

Spyderco is an American company based in Golden, Colorado, founded in 1976 by Sal and Gail Glesser. The brand's origins are linked to the invention of the “Portable Hand,” which gave rise to the company's name, and in 1978, the innovative Tri-Angle Sharpmaker® was introduced. The breakthrough came in 1981 with the launch of the C01 Worker knife - the world's first model with a carrying clip, the distinctive Spyderhole opening, and the serrated SpyderEdge blade. Spyderco was also a pioneer in the use of new materials, being the first to introduce CPM S60V powder steel and H-1 stainless steel, designed for use in marine environments. For years, the brand has been collaborating with renowned knifemakers, including Al Mar, Ernest Emerson, and Marcin Slysz, creating unique models that have gained iconic status. The stylized spider logo symbolizes both the company's origins and Spyderco's values: precision, innovation, and high performance.

Big, sharp blade in a unique style – a knife for connoisseurs. Highly recommended, I have had it in my collection for several years and it makes an impression.
-
Great knife. For me, I always have to "get used to" every new knife. In this case, it was different. From the first click I thought it was awesome. A small minus for not being able to reposition the clip.
-
Strong knife. Big for a folder. Too bad you can't reposition the clip to tip-up.

My Military is just reaching the end of its lifespan. 15 years of using this awesome knife has just passed. During this time I replaced 3 clips because they bent, and the threads on the screws holding the clip have worn out. They could have glued in brass bushings. I had to reprofile the blade because the tip broke off. And the liner lock finally wore out, starting to get too much play. The knife was carried and used daily all this time. Great, solid, light knife. I would buy it again.

5 stars is not enough for this knife! Amazing!
-
Classic knife. For me, it's the holy grail even though I own more expensive knives.

This knife gives you a feeling of power when you hold it in your hand. Long and wide blade, classic linerlock, and the empty space in the handle make it seem like the simplest yet most powerful thing. The weight makes you almost not feel it in your hand, just hope it doesn't develop loose fittings after longer use. A typical military knife, definitely not for working with wood. The aggressive texture shouldn't rub your pocket, so I recommend carrying it in your pocket without using the clip. Essential.

Calling it a classic is not enough, it's my favorite knife. Whoever buys it won't want to use any other knife, even much more expensive ones. This knife surpasses all other folding knives. The price isn't high at all for a knife of this class. There are knives even five times more expensive that aren't any better. I recommend it, don't hesitate, the choice is obvious.
-
Very sharp knife that retains its sharpness. The only downside is the price (not for everyone).
-
Great knife, only the price is a bit high.
-
The only downside of this knife is unfortunately its price. Other than that, it's a perfect folder.
-
For me, this is the best Spyderco! I love this knife! It makes an impression and is made of great materials, and in the USA, not in China. I highly recommend it to those who like an aggressive, military style.
-
Love or hate, for me it's the best folder!
