The buckle is made of good materials. Personally, I use it for the chest strap so the webbing doesn't hang loosely after fastening the buckle. While a loosely hanging webbing shouldn't interfere with hiking, when cycling, the buckle makes a difference.

Good quality clips that do their job very well. After half a year of use, nothing has happened to them - they don't become hard or brittle from the sun (on a backpack). I recommend them.
