Kawmet is a Polish manufacturer of cast iron fireplace inserts, freestanding stoves, and wood-burning heating appliances, operating continuously since 1981. The company is rooted in the tradition of cast iron foundry work — and cast iron remains the foundation of every product in the lineup: a heavy, durable material with exceptional heat absorption and heat retention properties. Over the decades, Kawmet has grown into one of the largest fireplace insert manufacturers in Poland, combining generations of foundry craftsmanship with a modern automated production line launched in 2005. Today, Kawmet products are available throughout Poland and exported to European markets.

History and Foundry Heritage

Kawmet has its roots in Orły, in the Podkarpacie region, where the company has been operating since 1981. During the first two decades, it focused on a broad range of industrial casting: pressure valves, filters, bushings, brake drums, brake shoes, starter heads, camshafts, housings, throttle bodies, and numerous other metal components. Over the past several years, the company shifted its focus to heating appliances — fireplace inserts, freestanding stoves, and multi-fuel heaters — where its foundry expertise found a natural application. A turning point came with the construction of a new foundry in 2005, equipped with an automated line featuring the AFI 86 impulse molding machine and the high-capacity DISA 2013A automated molding line, which allowed production to double while simultaneously improving quality and reducing costs.

Products and Technology

Kawmet fireplace inserts are produced in three lines: Standard, Standard ECO, and Premium, available in straight, left-hand (LB), and right-hand (PB) configurations, allowing them to be fitted to virtually any room layout and existing flue system. ECO models meet the requirements of the European Parliament's Ecodesign Directive, verified by the relevant certifications: seasonal energy efficiency above 65%, carbon monoxide emissions below required thresholds, and low particulate emissions. In addition to conventional air-only inserts, Kawmet offers water jacket inserts that can be connected to a central heating system, enabling whole-home heating from a single fireplace. Freestanding stoves round out the range with heating options independent of built-in installations — particularly popular for seasonal use in holiday homes and allotment plots. All Kawmet products feature a flue gas afterburning system that increases efficiency and reduces harmful emissions.

Materials and Durability

The cast iron used by Kawmet delivers exceptional durability and longevity in heating appliances. Unlike steel constructions, cast iron fireplace inserts do not warp under high temperatures and do not lose their seal integrity over time. Cast iron absorbs heat efficiently and releases it evenly over an extended period — even after the fire has died down — resulting in greater thermal comfort and lower wood consumption. The company produces its own casting molds and maintains strict control over alloy composition and dimensional tolerances of finished components, ensuring consistent quality across every production run.
