A campfire cauldron is a solid, usually cast iron or steel vessel with a lid, designed specifically for cooking over an open fire. It is used to prepare a variety of dishes - from thick stews, soups and bigos to roasted meats. Its design allows for even heat distribution, which translates into a deep flavor of dishes, characteristic of cooking over a campfire.
A campfire cauldron is a great choice, for example, when you set off in a car with your family outdoors and want to prepare a larger portion of food over a campfire. It will also work great on an allotment or in a house with your own garden.
Why is it worth using a campfire cauldron?
Cooking over a campfire in a cauldron gives dishes a unique, smoky aroma that cannot be achieved in a home kitchen. The cast iron or steel material from which a campfire cauldron is usually made distributes heat evenly, making dishes juicy and full of flavor.
You can prepare almost anything in a cauldron - from one-pot meals, through roasted meats, to warming soups. Its operation does not require complicated equipment or advanced culinary skills, which makes it an ideal solution for anyone who wants to cook outdoors.
How to prepare a cauldron for a campfire?
If you have a new cauldron made of cast iron, the first step is to burn it to remove the factory protective layer (e.g. wax or technical oil) and prepare the surface for cooking. Before first use, wash the cauldron with water only, dry thoroughly, and then grease it with a thin layer of edible oil - both inside and out. Pour water into it, place it over a hot campfire and burn for about 30 minutes. After cooling, pour out the water and wipe the cauldron with a paper towel.
