A compound bow is a special type of bow that uses a system of adjustable pulleys to assist in the process of string tension. Bows of this type are also characterized by a rigid design that increases the energy of the fired projectile, while preventing the string from being tensioned by the force of the arms themselves. Therefore, the string is wound on pulleys (blocks) connected by cables with the opposite arm of the bow. The pulleys mounted in the bow also make aiming easier, as the force required to keep the string taut is reduced.
Modern block bows are mainly used for sport and recreational purposes, although in some countries it is also permissible to hunt with specially adapted hunting bows.
