Dual-band transceiver delivering 5 W of output power (known as a duobander). Engineered to operate across both VHF and UHF frequency spectrums. Features a spacious, highly legible two-line display, a DTMF keypad, and an advanced menu system.
A unique capability of the radio is Dual Watch, enabling simultaneous monitoring of two channels. This feature allows for operation on the chosen band at two separate frequencies (transmitting/listening on the primary frequency while also listening on a secondary frequency), with a dedicated button to switch the main frequency. The HTQ version offers greatly enhanced modulation and superior resistance to interference compared to earlier versions. Additional features include a dual display and a 41-option menu.
Programming the Baofeng UV-82 HTQ is possible directly via the keypad or through a computer using a USB cable. The software provides various options for easy channel organization and identification. The presence of the VOX feature enables voice-activated transmission without the need to press the PTT button.
Compact dimensions ensure the model rests securely in the palm, while ergonomically positioned keys enable one-handed operation for all functions. The durable casing is designed to withstand demanding weather conditions. Powered by a 1800 mAh lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery and recharged through a USB-C cable.
CTCSS (Continuous Tone-Coded Squelch System) and DCS (Digital Code Squelch) operation serve as two radio communication methods designed to filter out unwanted transmissions and minimize interference. Utilizing these systems enables radios to accept only those signals carrying the correct tone or code, which is especially advantageous in environments with numerous users sharing identical or nearby frequencies. Both functions are highly effective for maintaining a clear communication channel and for blocking unintended transmissions from unknown sources, a crucial aspect for both professional and hobby radio applications.
