Benchmade Barrage 154CM Folding Knife - Black Valox

Foldable knife designed for everyday use, characterized by a solid construction and ease of use. The compact form when folded makes it easy to carry, so the model doesn't take up much space in a pocket or in the accouterment and can always be at hand.

The materials used and the thoughtful design ensure durability, resistance to heavy use, and stability during work. Proper balance and refined ergonomics make the tool fit well in the hand.

hardened steel 154cm

The blade is made of stainless steel 154CM and hardened to a hardness of 58-61 HRC, which translates into corrosion resistance, durability, and long-lasting sharpness. The blade length is 91 mm, and its thickness is 3 mm, ensuring appropriate stiffness and stability.

drop-point blade profile

The blade with a Drop-Point profile provides very good cutting control. This type of geometry is effective for both precise tasks and work requiring greater pressure. The blade is derived with a flat grind, and the blade is finished with satin. This process creates parallel micro-scratches on the surface, giving the knife a technical, matte look.

Handle - Valox plastic and steel reinforcement

The handle is made of durable thermoplastic Valox in black, which is resistant to mechanical damage and external factors. The structure is reinforced with 420J steel liners, improving the rigidity and durability of the entire knife. Additionally, profiled notches are used to increase hand grip and improve control during use.

double-sided thumb stud and Axis Lock

The knife is equipped with a double-sided thumb stud, allowing for quick and convenient one-handed opening. The model features an Axis Lock with a spring-assisted opening mechanism. This solution facilitates quick blade deployment and ensures stable and safe locking in the open position.

The lock design is double-sided, allowing the knife to be comfortably operated by both right- and left-handed users.

spring clip

The knife is equipped with a reversible clip that allows the carrying method to be adjusted to the user's preference. This way, the tool can be comfortably worn on a pocket or accouterment, maintaining quick access in any situation.

Benchmade Knife Company is an American brand founded in 1988 by Les de Asis in Oregon, with roots dating back to the 1970s when it operated as Bali-Song. The company became famous for producing folding and combat knives, and its butterfly logo refers to the first balisong models, which were awarded the title of Knife of the Year in 1979. Today, Benchmade manufactures knives in three lines: Blue Class, Black Class, and Gold Class, using modern powder steels such as S30V, M390, and CPM-20CV, and the patented Axis Lock, valued for its reliability and smooth operation. Among the brand's icons are the Griptilian, Bugout, 940 Osborne, Infidel, and Bushcrafter models, and the company regularly collaborates with renowned knifemakers such as Mel Pardue, Warren Osborne, and Ernest Emerson. Benchmade was the first knife manufacturer in the US to implement fully automated CNC production, achieving unprecedented precision and repeatability in the industry.

154CM feature
154CM
154CM steel is an American stainless tool steel developed by Crucible Industries, which is an improvement on the popular 440C steel and is the American equivalent of ATS-34 steel. It is characterized by a high carbon content (1.05%) and chromium (14-15%), and also contains 4% molybdenum, manganese (0.3-0.5%), silicon (0.5-0.7%), and trace amounts of sulfur and phosphorus, which gives it good corrosion resistance, hardness, and strength. 154CM offers a hardness range of 58-61 HRC, which makes knives made from this steel not only durable but also relatively easy to sharpen. This steel is particularly valued for its ability to maintain a sharp edge for a long time, making it a popular choice in the production of premium knives.
Axis-Lock feature
Axis-Lock
Axis-Lock is a folding knife locking mechanism patented by Bill McHenry and Jason Williams, popularized and licensed by Benchmade. A spring steel bar (crossbar) slides transversely between the scales and fits into a recess on the back of the blade, firmly locking it in the open position. The mechanism works thanks to two omega springs that press the bar into the lock, ensuring smooth, two-handed operation and no play. To close the knife, simply slide the bar toward the rear of the handle and release the catch, allowing you to safely fold the blade without risking contact between your fingers and the blade.
Satin feature
Satin
Satin finishing is one of the most popular blade finishes, achieved by grinding the steel with fine-grained abrasives. Parallel micro-scratches remain on the surface, giving the knife a technical, matte appearance. Satin finishing has both aesthetic and practical significance - a smoothed blade is easier to clean, and the slightly reduced friction promotes smoother cutting. Depending on the direction and intensity of polishing, different effects are achieved - from a matte finish to an almost mirror-like finish. Satin is valued in both utility and collector's knives because it emphasizes the structure and quality of the steel while maintaining functionality.
Valox feature
Valox
Valox is a family of semi-crystalline thermoplastic resins based mainly on polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) and its blends with polyethylene terephthalate (PET) or polycarbonate (PC). The material is sometimes modified with glass fiber, mineral fillers, and flame retardants, which allows for increased mechanical strength, dimensional stability, chemical resistance, and better resistance to high temperatures. Valox has good electrical insulation properties and is suitable for injection molding of complex parts, making it ideal for use as a material for scales and handles.

It fits very comfortably in the hand. The mechanism is very smooth, opening and closing is pure pleasure. Good steel and workmanship. A great proposition for a medium-sized folding knife.

Great entry to "more expensive", but high quality knife.
