The Trapper’s Life, or My Sixty Years of Trapping, Trading, and Wars with the Indians immerses the reader in the captivating reality of a trapper’s existence set in the American Wild West. As a frail teenager, Bill is sent by his parents to the legendary trapper Williams, with the hope of restoring his health by spending a year in the remote fur territories of the far west. What begins as a one-year adventure soon transforms into a lifetime spent beneath open skies—amongst bears, beavers, and both welcoming and hostile tribes of Native Americans.

From the author's viewpoint, readers gain access to a mesmerizing yet harsh world. The book unfolds the saga of westward American expansion and the tragic extinguishing of North American indigenous cultures. Far from being a detached observer, the author takes part in the very events he chronicles, presenting a highly personal account. Enthralling in its narrative, the story delivers relentless action—reminiscent of classic westerns—maintained from the very first page through to the gripping finale, leaving readers with much to reflect upon.

The book is written in Polish.

A very interestingly written book, supposedly based on the author's experiences, but somewhat exaggerated regarding the writer's own role in the described adventures. It's worth reading because it excellently depicts the 19th century in the Wild West.

Engagingly written in an easy style. It's a bit brutal, but that makes it accurately reflect the realities of that world and the way people thought. I read it in two evenings. I recommend this and other books from militaria.pl.

One of the best books in this genre that I've had in my hands. Reading it by the fire gives an unparalleled atmosphere. I even learned a few things from the book, so it conveys knowledge.

One of the most interesting books I've read lately. A story of trappers, Indians, fighting and survival. A real man's story.

Unlike other books of Old Wonderful World, this one is a kind of memoir rather than literature filled with dry camping advice. It draws in the reader hungry for a western atmosphere to the last page...

Nice western. It's not a bushcraft guidebook but rather memories from the life of a trapper trading and fighting with Indians. As a child I loved westerns on Sunday afternoons, but this book didn't grab me. It was supposedly about the fate of good and bad Indians and a trader trapper who made his living and sometimes had to defend himself from their attacks.
