Casstrom No.10 SFK Canvas Micarta A8 Mod Leather Fixed Blade Knife

A knife with a Full-Tang construction, representing the first project of the Swedish brand Casstrom and at the same time one of the most recognizable bushcraft models from this manufacturer. Equipped with a Drop-Point blade profile with a length of 103 mm, made from wear-resistant A8 Mod tool steel and handle scales made of Micarta composite.

The model was designed for demanding outdoor tasks – from precise wood processing to heavier survival and camp work. The materials used and the full-length tang running through the handle ensure high durability. The No.10 SFK knife was refined over the years until it reached its final form, which gained recognition among outdoor enthusiasts looking for a reliable field tool. The set includes a leather sheath.

A8 Mod hardened tool steel

The blade was made from A8 Mod tool steel, hardened to 58-59 HRC. The material used is characterized by high resistance to chipping and ease of sharpening while maintaining very good working sharpness. Thanks to the content of chromium, molybdenum, and vanadium, it provides a favorable combination of toughness, blade stability, and wear resistance. It performs particularly well in working and outdoor knives, where resistance to heavy loads is important.

Drop-point blade, Scandinavian grind, satin finish

In the model, a Drop-Point blade is used, with a smooth cutting edge and a length of 103 mm. The blade is fashioned with a Scandinavian (Scandi) grind, particularly valued in bushcraft knives. This type of geometry is well-suited for whittling or batoning wood and preparing kindling.

Proper balance of the blade leads to better control over the knife. The weight is distributed evenly between the blade and the handle, ensuring higher cutting precision and reducing hand fatigue during prolonged work. The blade is finished using the satin method.

Micarta composite handle scales, lanyard hole

The handle consists of screw-mounted scales with an ergonomic shape, made from durable Micarta composite in a brown color. The material used is highly resistant to mechanical damage, abrasion, moisture, and changing weather conditions, making it well suited for intensive outdoor use.

The lightly textured surface of the scales ensures a secure grip and good knife control, increasing both safety and comfort during work. At the end of the handle, there is a lanyard hole that allows the attachment of a cord or safety lanyard, making the knife easier to carry and reducing the risk of accidental loss.

leather sheath included

The set includes a brown sheath with a drainage hole, made of vegetable-tanned leather, which protects the blade during transport and storage of the knife. The construction allows for comfortable belt carry, providing quick access to the tool during outdoor work.

Both the natural leather used for the sheath and the Micarta used in the handle gradually develop a characteristic patina over time, emphasizing the knife’s outdoor character. This process is a natural feature of both materials and does not negatively affect their durability or functional properties.

Satin feature
Satin
Satin finishing is one of the most popular blade finishes, achieved by grinding the steel with fine-grained abrasives. Parallel micro-scratches remain on the surface, giving the knife a technical, matte appearance. Satin finishing has both aesthetic and practical significance - a smoothed blade is easier to clean, and the slightly reduced friction promotes smoother cutting. Depending on the direction and intensity of polishing, different effects are achieved - from a matte finish to an almost mirror-like finish. Satin is valued in both utility and collector's knives because it emphasizes the structure and quality of the steel while maintaining functionality.
Micarta feature
Micarta
Micarta is a composite material made of layers of fabric (including canvas, linen, and paper) soaked in resin and pressed under high pressure and temperature. It is characterized by high mechanical strength, resistance to impact, abrasion, and changing weather conditions, as well as dimensional stability, which makes it ideal for knife handles. The surface of Micarta provides a secure grip and can be finished smooth or left with a slight texture to improve control over the tool. The material does not conduct heat or electricity, tolerates contact with moisture well, and acquires a characteristic patina over time, emphasizing the individual style of the knife. Thanks to its combination of durability, environmental resistance, and unique appearance, Micarta is widely used in EDC, outdoor, and collector's knives.
