Casstrom No.8 SFK CB 14C28N Knife with Fire Starter

A knife with Full-Tang construction from the Swedish brand Casstrom and at the same time one of this manufacturer's most recognisable bushcraft models. It is equipped with a Drop-Point blade measuring 83 mm, made from wear-resistant 14C28N stainless steel, and handle scales made of natural Curly Birch wood, also known as curly birch. The model was designed for demanding work in the field - from precise wood processing to heavier survival and camp tasks. The materials used and the tang running through the full length of the handle are responsible for its high durability. The set includes a leather sheath.

The knife blade is made from high-grade 14C28N stainless steel, hardened to 59-60 HRC. The chemical composition of the material has been optimised to achieve high hardness. The carbon content supports good cutting properties, while chromium provides high rust resistance and oxidation resistance. The material combines above-average wear resistance with high resistance to cracking and chipping, which is a difficult-to-achieve yet highly desirable combination for models intended for heavy-duty work. The steel used is much less prone to corrosion than typical low-alloy tool steels.

The model features a Drop-Point blade with a plain cutting edge and a length of 83 mm. The blade has a Scandi grind, particularly valued in bushcraft knives. This type of geometry performs well when carving or batoning wood and preparing firewood.

Proper blade balance translates into better knife control. The weight is distributed evenly between the blade and the handle, which ensures greater cutting precision and reduces hand fatigue during prolonged work. The blade has been finished with a satin finish.

The handle is formed by scales screwed to the tang, with an ergonomic shape, made from oiled Curly Birch wood, also known as curly birch. The oil waterproofing helps protect the material against moisture and dirt. At the end of the handle there is a hole for threading a lanyard or safety cord.

The properly contoured handle shape provides a secure grip, improves knife control and reduces hand fatigue during precise work. Curly Birch is a material valued both for its durability and for its distinctive appearance resulting from the irregular arrangement of the wood fibres

The set includes a sheath with a Drainageöffnung made of vegetable-tanned leather, which protects the blade during transport and storage of the knife. The design allows comfortable carrying of the tool on a belt, ensuring quick access to it during field work.

Natural leather is characterised by very good resistance to intensive use, and over time it gradually develops a characteristic patina that emphasises the outdoor character of the equipment. This process is a typical feature of genuine leather and does not negatively affect its durability or functional properties.

The set includes a flint that generates a large stream of sparks. It allows effective fire starting, making it suitable not only during camping and outdoor trips, but also in emergency situations. The rod measuring 9,5 x 60 mm allows sparks to be struck with a much larger surface area (compared with smaller models), enabling fire starting up to 12000 times.
