Cold Steel Black Sable CPM-XHP Folding Knife - Black

A folding knife measuring a total of 254 mm in length, equipped with a 106 mm tanto-style blade crafted from CPM-XHP stainless steel, known for its excellent toughness, resistance to wear, and protection against corrosion. The blade comes with a protective black PVD coating. The handle incorporates a Lock Back locking mechanism and is fitted with carbon fiber handle scales.

Stainless steel CPM-XHP

The blade is crafted from CPM-XHP stainless steel, renowned for delivering an excellent balance of hardness and resistance to corrosion. Featuring a substantial carbon and chromium content, the material ensures prolonged edge retention and superior wear resistance. Engineered through powder metallurgy, the steel demonstrates enhanced microcrack resistance and can be sharpened more easily than many steels with comparable hardness.

Tanto profile blade, combination grind, PVD coating

The blade adopts a Tanto design, engineered for superior thrusting power and outstanding effectiveness when penetrating tough materials. The distinctive sharp angle between the cutting edge and the stabbing tip produces an additional cutting point, enhancing accuracy in detailed slicing tasks. With a reinforced tip profile, the risk of tip breakage during demanding operations is greatly minimized. Such a blade configuration excels in tactical and EDC scenarios where high penetration capability and precise blade handling are essential.

The Black Sable knife showcases a hybrid grind that combines both a flat grind (Flat Grind) and a hollow grind (Hollow Grind). Extending from the handle up to the intersection of the blade's two edges, the primary portion utilizes a hollow grind, delivering enhanced cutting ability, minimal drag, and consistent stability through cuts. At the tip, a flat grind fortifies resistance to potential breakage. A continuous curve runs along the entire cutting edge, optimizing slicing performance. The blade is finished with a black PVD coating, offering exceptional scratch resistance while also providing extra protection against corrosion and minimizing light reflection.

carbon fibre handle, spring clip

Featuring ergonomically shaped scales crafted from black carbon fiber, the knife offers outstanding resistance to mechanical wear and external influences. A durable steel clip in a tip-up configuration secures the knife conveniently to a belt or pocket edge, ensuring comfortable everyday transport. The clip is positioned on the right side.

thumb stud, Lock Back mechanism

A thumb stud accessible from both sides enables smooth, ambidextrous blade deployment, whether using the right or left hand. The blade remains firmly locked open thanks to a Lock Back mechanism, one of the most reliable and robust locking systems for folding knives, providing superior protection against accidental opening when the knife is closed.

CTS-XHP feature
CTS-XHP
CTS-XHP is a powdered martensitic steel developed by Carpenter Technology as a combination of the advantages of D2 and 440C - high hardness, edge durability, and corrosion resistance in a single alloy. The carbon content (1.6%) gives it high hardness, while chromium (16%) is responsible for stainlessness and protection against oxidation. Molybdenum (0.8%) enhances wear resistance, and vanadium (0.45%) forms hard carbides that increase cutting aggressiveness and edge retention. Manganese (0.5%) and silicon (0.4%) improve hardenability and structural stability during heat treatment, while the addition of nickel (0.35%) increases ductility and fracture resistance. After hardening, CTS-XHP achieves a hardness of up to 64-65 HRC, ensuring excellent edge retention while maintaining higher corrosion resistance than classic D2. The steel is used in premium knives, EDC, and tactical designs.
Carbon Fiber feature
Carbon Fiber
Carbon fiber is a composite material that is exceptionally light and very strong, considered one of the most advanced materials used in knife manufacturing. It is made of thin carbon fibers embedded in epoxy resin, which are then pressed and hardened to form an extremely rigid and resistant structure. Used in knife handles, it provides high resistance to mechanical damage, is not affected by moisture or extreme temperatures, and is chemically inert and non-conductive. It is distinguished by its characteristic layered weave, which gives each handle a unique appearance, particularly valued in premium knives.
PVD - Physical Vapor Deposition feature
PVD - Physical Vapor Deposition
PVD (Physical Vapor Deposition) coating is a modern technology for applying ultra-thin layers of metal in a vacuum, which significantly increases the durability of knives. Thanks to this, the blade becomes highly resistant to scratches, abrasion, and corrosion, while gaining a matte surface that reduces glare. This process allows for aesthetic finishes in various colors, from deep black to gold, which do not wear off like classic paint. As a result, the knife retains its great appearance and full functionality even with intensive use.
