Cold Steel Kris Voyager Folding Knife AUS-10A

A large, durable, yet lightweight-for-its-size knife from the Voyager series, with a blade profile inspired by Malaysian Kris daggers, characterized by a serpentine, wavy blade. The blade is made of Japanese AUS-10A stainless steel.

AUS-10A stainless steel, hollow grind

The 139 mm long, 3.8 mm thick blade is made of AUS-10A stainless steel, which holds its edge well and is easy to resharpen. The blade features a hollow grind, which, combined with the blade geometry, ensures excellent cutting performance.

double-sided stud, Tri-Ad Lock

The blade features a double-sided thumb stud, which allows you to easily open the knife with either your right or left hand. When open, the blade is locked in place by the Tri-Ad Lock, an advanced version of the Back Lock. Unlike its predecessor, it engages much deeper, and under load, it rests against a pin that limits the blade’s opening, providing additional stability.

Griv-Ex nylon, tip-up clip

The ergonomically contoured handle with a non-slip texture is made of durableand lightweight Griv-Ex glass-nylon composite. The textured surface ensures a secure grip in all conditions. A spring-loaded steel tip-up clip ensures comfortable everyday carry. The set includes an additional clip that can be mounted on the left side of the scales.

Cold Steel is a respected American brand of knives, machetes, and tactical tools, founded in 1980 in Irving, California. The company gained popularity thanks to innovative solutions such as Kraton® handles and American Tanto blades, appreciated by uniformed services and military enthusiasts. It also introduced its own steel alloys, such as San Mai III®, which provides high durability and wear resistance. Cold Steel patented the Tri-Ad™ Lock blade locking mechanism, which guarantees safe use. The brand works with respected knifemakers, including the company's founder Lynn C. Thompson and Andrew Demko, whose passion and experience contribute to the high quality of the products.

AUS-10 feature
AUS-10
AUS-10 is a high-quality stainless steel produced by the Japanese company Aichi Steel, considered one of the best in the AUS steel series, used mainly in mid-range and high-end utility knives, produced mainly in Japan and Taiwan. The carbon content (0.95-1.1%) ensures high hardness, while chromium (13-14.5%) guarantees very good corrosion and abrasion resistance. The steel also contains manganese (up to 1%), silicon (up to 1%), phosphorus (up to 0.025%), and sulfur (up to 0.025%), which affect hardenability, impact strength, elasticity, and machinability, improving structural stability and maintaining mechanical properties. After hardening, the steel achieves a hardness of 58-61 HRC, offering an excellent balance between strength, edge retention, and ease of sharpening. It is comparable to 440C steel, differing in carbon content and the addition of vanadium, which improves structural homogeneity and increases abrasion resistance.
Tri-Ad Lock feature
Tri-Ad Lock
Tri-Ad Lock is a lock developed by Cold Steel and Andrew Demko, considered one of the strongest systems in folding knives. Its key element is a stop pin, which takes the pressure from the blade and distributes it to the handle, protecting the lock from wear and overload. The mechanism is designed to self-adjust over time, which maintains the reliability of the lock even after prolonged use. In tests, it has proven resistant to loads of up to hundreds of pounds, confirming its durability.
Griv-Ex feature
Griv-Ex
Griv-Ex is a durable glass-nylon composite reinforced with fiberglass used by Cold Steel, mainly for the production of knife handles, and in some models also for blade components. The material has a textured surface on the handles, which ensures a secure, non-slip grip, and its maintenance usually boils down to simple washing under running water. Griv-Ex is distinguished by its resistance to moisture, corrosion, mechanical damage, and extreme temperatures, and does not warp or crack under harsh conditions. When used in the construction of blades, it is additionally stabilized by UV rays and heat, which further increases its durability.

Good knife, I was pleasantly surprised at how well the TriAdLock was polished—in other large CS folders I had to polish it myself with fine-grain sandpaper. Because of the blade shape, it has a very intriguing cutting mechanism as the material falls into each successive 'bay' of the blade. It's quite thick just behind the edge, but well sharpened, you can shave, although when processing food it's specific enough that it's better to stick to versions with a more classic blade shape (drop point, clip point, or vaquero). Thick tip, so no worries about it breaking when sticking the knife into something. I think this knife is more for more avid collectors (to be considered after you already have, for example, Clip Point/Drop Point/Vaquero versions), functionally similar to the "Voyager XL Tanto" and another CS knife: "Frenzy".

I recommend it, but at the price of ~460, paying more than half the price for a slipper is a bit much.

A new version of the popular Voyager, inspired by the Malaysian Kris dagger. The knife is made of AUS 10A steel, with excellent cutting properties and an ergonomic handle made of griv-ex. I recommend it.
