Cold Steel OSI AUS-8A Fixed Blade Knife

A tactical knife designed with a Full Tang build, featuring a single-edged configuration inspired by the Cold Steel OSS knife. The Clip-Point blade is crafted from AUS-8A stainless steel, offering an optimal balance among corrosion resistance, sharpening ease, and edge retention. The handle utilizes Kray-Ex plastic with a non-slip finish for secure grip. An included Secure-Ex sheath enables versatile, multi-position mounting on a belt or gear.

Japanese AUS-8A stainless steel

Engineered from Japanese AUS-8A stainless steel, the blade offers a well-balanced composition. Providing high corrosion resistance alongside reliable impact resilience and easy sharpening, the material ensures straightforward upkeep. Once hardened, the steel achieves 58–60 HRC, which guarantees impressive cutting efficiency and long-lasting durability.

Clip-Point Blade, satin finish

Featuring a Clip-Point profile, the blade measures 209 mm in length and 4.7 mm in thickness. A full flat grind is employed on the plain cutting edge, optimizing the blade's geometry for superior slicing performance and exceptional penetration capability. Finished with a satin coating, the blade achieves a semi-matte look that not only elevates its visual appeal but also boosts resistance to scratches throughout use.

Handle with Kray-Ex, Sub-Hilt

The handle is crafted as a single, unified piece using Kray-Ex material through injection molding. A front cross guard shields the hand, minimizing the chance of fingers sliding onto the blade, while an additional, smaller Sub-Hilt guard enhances grip security and enables swift blade withdrawal after material penetration. Ergonomic contouring and a non-slip texture deliver superior control, stability, and user safety even in demanding environments. An opening at the rear of the handle accommodates a safety cord.

sheath in the Secure-Ex system

The knife is accompanied by a sheath crafted with the Secure-Ex system, utilizing a lightweight, robust, and weatherproof material. Thanks to a precision-molded opening and an additional snap closure, the sheath ensures the knife remains securely in place, preventing unintentional slips. A detachable loop provides fast attachment to a belt without the need for removal, while multiple openings and slots allow for versatile, multi-position mounting on gear.

Secure-Ex feature
Secure-Ex
Secure-Ex is a system developed by Cold Steel, designed for the safe storage and convenient carrying of knives and tools. Sheaths made with this technology are lightweight, durable, and weather-resistant, making them suitable even for intensive use. They hold the knife securely in the sheath while allowing for quick and smooth draw. The system has a modular design - the sheaths can be supplemented with various fasteners, such as buckles, clips (e.g., C-Clip) or ball chains. This allows the knife to be worn on a belt, around the neck, or in other configurations, according to the user's preferences.
Kray-Ex feature
Kray-Ex
Kray-Ex is a synthetic polymer with a rubber-like structure used by Cold Steel to manufacture knife handles. It is characterized by high adhesion and anti-slip properties, ensuring a secure grip even in high humidity, low temperatures, and with dirty hands. The material is flexible and absorbs shocks well, which increases comfort of use. Kray-Ex is also resistant to cracking, abrasion, chemicals, and adverse weather conditions, making handles made of this material durable and virtually maintenance-free. Cold Steel uses it in tactical, survival, and utility knives.
AUS-8A feature
AUS-8A
AUS-8A is a Japanese stainless steel, equivalent to 440B steel, characterized by a good balance between corrosion resistance, ease of sharpening, and edge retention. The carbon content (0.7-0.75%) affects the hardness of the steel, while chromium (13-14.5%) provides very good corrosion and abrasion resistance. Vanadium additives (up to 0.26%) improve the homogeneity of the steel's crystal structure and increase the blade's resistance to abrasion. The steel also contains molybdenum (0.1-0.3%), manganese (0.5%), silicon (0.4-1%), and nickel (0.49%). After proper heat treatment, AUS-8 steel achieves a hardness of 58-60 HRC, making it a solid material with good cutting properties and durability. The steel is widely used in mid-range knives, mainly produced in Japan and Taiwan, such as the popular Ontario RAT 1.
Satin feature
Satin
Satin finishing is one of the most popular blade finishes, achieved by grinding the steel with fine-grained abrasives. Parallel micro-scratches remain on the surface, giving the knife a technical, matte appearance. Satin finishing has both aesthetic and practical significance - a smoothed blade is easier to clean, and the slightly reduced friction promotes smoother cutting. Depending on the direction and intensity of polishing, different effects are achieved - from a matte finish to an almost mirror-like finish. Satin is valued in both utility and collector's knives because it emphasizes the structure and quality of the steel while maintaining functionality.
