Cold Steel Pendleton Mini Hunter CPM 3V Fixed Blade Knife

A fixed-blade knife with a compact design, designed for use by hunters, but also ideal for camping and outdoor activities. The model features a Drop-Point blade made of CPM 3V tool steel and a handle crafted from black Kray-Ex material, ensuring a secure and stable grip. The set includes a Secure-Ex sheath, allowing for comfortable and safe carrying of the knife on a belt or other accouterments.

The design is the work of renowned knifemaker and hunter Lloyd Pendelton in collaboration with Cold Steel.

CPM 3V tool steel

The blade is made of CPM 3V tool steel produced using powder metallurgy, which, although not stainless steel, offers good corrosion resistance. After proper heat treatment, the steel achieves a hardness of 58–61 HRC, offering an optimal balance between strength, edge retention, and ease of sharpening.

Drop-point blade, satin finish

The blade has a Drop-Point profile and measures 75 mm in length and 3 mm in thickness. The smooth cutting edge features a flat grind, which provides a good balance between cutting performance and blade strength. The satin finish gives the blade a semi-matte appearance, enhances its aesthetics, and increases resistance to scratches caused by use.

Kray-Ex handle with non-slip texture

The handle is made of Kray-Ex, a material resistant to mechanical damage. The non-slip texture ensures a secure and stable grip during use, and the single-sided cross guard protects the hand by preventing fingers from sliding onto the blade. Additionally, there is a hole at the back of the handle for threading a safety cord or lanyard.

Secure-Ex system sheath

The knife comes with a sheath made using the Secure-Ex system from a lightweight, durable, and weather-resistant material. The sheath holds the knife securely in place thanks to its contoured opening and an additional snap closure, which prevents it from accidentally falling out. The zippered loop allows for quick attachment to a belt without having to remove it, and the holes enable multi-position mounting to equipment.

Secure-Ex feature
Secure-Ex
Secure-Ex is a system developed by Cold Steel, designed for the safe storage and convenient carrying of knives and tools. Sheaths made with this technology are lightweight, durable, and weather-resistant, making them suitable even for intensive use. They hold the knife securely in the sheath while allowing for quick and smooth draw. The system has a modular design - the sheaths can be supplemented with various fasteners, such as buckles, clips (e.g., C-Clip) or ball chains. This allows the knife to be worn on a belt, around the neck, or in other configurations, according to the user's preferences.
Kray-Ex feature
Kray-Ex
Kray-Ex is a synthetic polymer with a rubber-like structure used by Cold Steel to manufacture knife handles. It is characterized by high adhesion and anti-slip properties, ensuring a secure grip even in high humidity, low temperatures, and with dirty hands. The material is flexible and absorbs shocks well, which increases comfort of use. Kray-Ex is also resistant to cracking, abrasion, chemicals, and adverse weather conditions, making handles made of this material durable and virtually maintenance-free. Cold Steel uses it in tactical, survival, and utility knives.
CPM 3V feature
CPM 3V
CPM 3V is a premium powder tool steel produced by Crucible Industries, known for its high resistance to impact, fracture, and wear. It contains 0.8% carbon, 7.5% chromium, and additions of molybdenum (1.3%), vanadium (2.75%), manganese (up to 1%), and silicon (up to 1%) additives, which improve wear resistance and structural stability. After heat treatment, it achieves a hardness of 58-61 HRC, providing a balance between strength, durability, and ease of sharpening. Although CPM 3V is not stainless steel, it offers good corrosion resistance and is widely used in the manufacture of military, survival, and hunting knives. It is suitable for intensive use in harsh conditions, combining high wear resistance, better ductility, and longer edge retention compared to other tool steels.
Satin feature
Satin
Satin finishing is one of the most popular blade finishes, achieved by grinding the steel with fine-grained abrasives. Parallel micro-scratches remain on the surface, giving the knife a technical, matte appearance. Satin finishing has both aesthetic and practical significance - a smoothed blade is easier to clean, and the slightly reduced friction promotes smoother cutting. Depending on the direction and intensity of polishing, different effects are achieved - from a matte finish to an almost mirror-like finish. Satin is valued in both utility and collector's knives because it emphasizes the structure and quality of the steel while maintaining functionality.
