Cold Steel Recon Scout CPM 3V Knife

Robust fixed-blade knife engineered for survival and tactical purposes. Features a blade with a Clip-Point design, enhanced by a Full Flat Grind and a sleek satin finish. Crafted from CPM 3V powder steel, the blade excels in superior impact toughness and outstanding wear resistance. The ergonomic black handle utilizes durable Kray-Ex polymer. Supplied with a sheath in the Secure-Ex system, incorporating holes and eyelets for multiposition mounting on a belt or gear attachments.

CPM 3V powder steel

Crafted from CPM 3V steel through powder metallurgy, the knife blade delivers exceptional strength and impact resistance. Offering abrasion resistance on par with the high-speed steels typically used for drills and milling tools, CPM 3V ensures outstanding durability in demanding conditions. While not classified as stainless steel, it maintains reliable corrosion resistance when given standard care. Heat treatment brings the hardness to 58-61 HRC, striking a balance between strength, longevity, and ease of sharpening.

blade with a Clip-Point profile

Featuring a Clip-Point blade profile, the knife offers 190 mm of blade length and 7.9 mm of thickness. Its plain edge is equipped with a Full Flat Grind and a refined satin finish, delivering a consistent, linear appearance after machining, minimizing light reflections on the surface, and assisting in masking minor marks that may develop over time. The false edge along the spine greatly enhances piercing capability, while the reinforced tip design diminishes the likelihood of tip failure. The edge presents a slight curve throughout its entire span, optimizing performance for slicing, chopping, and splitting tasks.

Handle made of Kray-Ex

The handle is crafted from Kray-Ex material, offering exceptional resistance to mechanical damage and environmental influences. A non-slip texture ensures a reliable and steady grip during operation. The inclusion of a double-sided cross guard safeguards the hand from slipping onto the blade. Located at the base of the handle, a lanyard hole provides the option to attach a safety cord. Featuring a Full Length Tang design, the tang runs through the entire handle, almost matching its width and extending to the handle’s end.

Secure-Ex Sheath

Featuring the Secure-Ex system, the sheath is crafted from material engineered to withstand harsh environmental conditions. A precisely contoured inlet combined with a snap-secured belt loop ensures the knife remains firmly in place, significantly minimizing the risk of unintentional drops. The belt loop provides convenient attachment to a belt, while multiple holes and eyelets enable multi-position integration with other gear components.

Secure-Ex feature
Secure-Ex
Secure-Ex is a system developed by Cold Steel, designed for the safe storage and convenient carrying of knives and tools. Sheaths made with this technology are lightweight, durable, and weather-resistant, making them suitable even for intensive use. They hold the knife securely in the sheath while allowing for quick and smooth draw. The system has a modular design - the sheaths can be supplemented with various fasteners, such as buckles, clips (e.g., C-Clip) or ball chains. This allows the knife to be worn on a belt, around the neck, or in other configurations, according to the user's preferences.
Kray-Ex feature
Kray-Ex
Kray-Ex is a synthetic polymer with a rubber-like structure used by Cold Steel to manufacture knife handles. It is characterized by high adhesion and anti-slip properties, ensuring a secure grip even in high humidity, low temperatures, and with dirty hands. The material is flexible and absorbs shocks well, which increases comfort of use. Kray-Ex is also resistant to cracking, abrasion, chemicals, and adverse weather conditions, making handles made of this material durable and virtually maintenance-free. Cold Steel uses it in tactical, survival, and utility knives.
CPM 3V feature
CPM 3V
CPM 3V is a premium powder tool steel produced by Crucible Industries, known for its high resistance to impact, fracture, and wear. It contains 0.8% carbon, 7.5% chromium, and additions of molybdenum (1.3%), vanadium (2.75%), manganese (up to 1%), and silicon (up to 1%) additives, which improve wear resistance and structural stability. After heat treatment, it achieves a hardness of 58-61 HRC, providing a balance between strength, durability, and ease of sharpening. Although CPM 3V is not stainless steel, it offers good corrosion resistance and is widely used in the manufacture of military, survival, and hunting knives. It is suitable for intensive use in harsh conditions, combining high wear resistance, better ductility, and longer edge retention compared to other tool steels.
Satin feature
Satin
Satin finishing is one of the most popular blade finishes, achieved by grinding the steel with fine-grained abrasives. Parallel micro-scratches remain on the surface, giving the knife a technical, matte appearance. Satin finishing has both aesthetic and practical significance - a smoothed blade is easier to clean, and the slightly reduced friction promotes smoother cutting. Depending on the direction and intensity of polishing, different effects are achieved - from a matte finish to an almost mirror-like finish. Satin is valued in both utility and collector's knives because it emphasizes the structure and quality of the steel while maintaining functionality.
