Cold Steel Tiger Claw Plain S35VN Folding Knife

Designed by renowned knifemaker Andrew Demko, this folding knife takes inspiration from the unique style of Karambit blades. Crafted from top-grade S35VN steel made with powder metallurgy, the blade ensures exceptional performance. The handle, constructed from black G10 laminate, provides a reliable and firm grip. A double-sided thumb disc allows for smooth opening, while the Tri-Ad Lock guarantees secure blade locking during operation.

S35VN stainless steel

Forged from CPM S35VN powder steel, the blade is recognized for its superior corrosion resistance and edge retention. Precision heat treatment brings the hardness to 58–61 HRC, ensuring the blade stays razor-sharp through prolonged, demanding everyday use.

Hawkbill profile blade

Equipped with a Hawkbill profile, the blade measures 82 mm in length and 3.5 mm in thickness, featuring a smooth cutting edge. Finished with a satin method, the blade boasts a semi-matte surface, not only elevating its visual appeal but also providing enhanced resistance to scratches. The blade’s geometry merges the functional aspects of the Hawkbill profile with the tactical strengths characteristic of the Karambit blade style.

Handle made from G10 laminate processed with CNC technology

The handle is crafted from G10 laminate, precision-engineered using CNC technology. This composite features multiple layers of fibreglass bonded with epoxy resin, offering exceptional strength, moisture resistance, and a lightweight profile. An ergonomically designed grip incorporates a finger cutout and non-slip texture for optimal knife control. A large aluminium finger ring is integrated at the end, providing enhanced handling during use.

A spring clip mounted on the handle offers practical carry options, enabling secure attachment to a belt or pocket edge for everyday use. The clip supports installation on either the left or right side of the handle.

Tri-Ad Lock

Outfitted with the Tri-Ad Lock system, regarded as one of the most robust folding knife mechanisms, this knife represents a significant evolution of the classic Back Lock. The system utilizes a stop pin to absorb blade pressure, effectively distributing the force to the handle, which minimizes wear on the mechanism’s components and delivers enhanced safety as well as dependable performance.

A dual-sided thumb-operated disc on the blade ensures both convenient and rapid deployment, allowing for ambidextrous opening with either hand. In addition, the disc enables swift blade activation by catching on the edge of your pocket.

CPM S35VN feature
CPM S35VN
CPM S35VN is a stainless powder steel developed by Crucible Industries in collaboration with Chris Reeve, used in premium knives. It is an evolution of the popular S30V steel, offering a better balance between wear resistance, stainlessness, and ease of machining. Carbon (approx. 1.4%) is responsible for high hardness, while chromium (approx. 14%) gives the steel very good corrosion resistance, and vanadium (approx. 3%) extends edge life and improves cutting aggression. After hardening, it reaches 58-61 HRC, combining edge durability with fracture resistance. The steel retains its sharpness for a long time and is easy to sharpen, commonly used in EDC, outdoor, tactical, and collector's knives.
Tri-Ad Lock feature
Tri-Ad Lock
Tri-Ad Lock is a lock developed by Cold Steel and Andrew Demko, considered one of the strongest systems in folding knives. Its key element is a stop pin, which takes the pressure from the blade and distributes it to the handle, protecting the lock from wear and overload. The mechanism is designed to self-adjust over time, which maintains the reliability of the lock even after prolonged use. In tests, it has proven resistant to loads of up to hundreds of pounds, confirming its durability.
G10 feature
G10
G10 is a lightweight and extremely durable material, considered one of the best for knife production. It is created by pressure-pressing fiberglass with phenolic resin, which gives it high durability and resistance to mechanical damage. It is chemically inert, does not conduct electricity, and retains its properties at both low and high temperatures. In terms of parameters, it is similar to carbon fiber, but its production is much cheaper. G10 handles are manufactured by precision cutting and cutting, which increases the cost of processing but ensures a perfect fit and long knife life.
Satin feature
Satin
Satin finishing is one of the most popular blade finishes, achieved by grinding the steel with fine-grained abrasives. Parallel micro-scratches remain on the surface, giving the knife a technical, matte appearance. Satin finishing has both aesthetic and practical significance - a smoothed blade is easier to clean, and the slightly reduced friction promotes smoother cutting. Depending on the direction and intensity of polishing, different effects are achieved - from a matte finish to an almost mirror-like finish. Satin is valued in both utility and collector's knives because it emphasizes the structure and quality of the steel while maintaining functionality.

Another Cold Steel for the collection, I’ve been thinking about buying it for some time but was discouraged by the impracticality of this knife. Honestly, that’s how it is, but it has something that catches the eye and makes you want to buy it. So I bought the S35VN model—of course, it’s good steel, so I don’t worry about retention, the sharpness straight from the box is very good, shaves hair quite impressively. In pictures and videos it looks like a big chunk, but in the hand it’s not heavy, I was actually surprised at how light it is. It decorates the collection and my sister likes it too, bought on sale so it makes even more sense. I recommend it.

Great knife for carrying in the left pocket as support for the right hand. Thanks to the karambit ring, you can draw it instantly by putting your fourth finger through the ring and pulling it "to the back"—this way the blade is positioned in the classic, usable position, not the reverse like in typical karambits. This significantly increases the tool’s functionality in everyday use. S35VN steel – very good quality, excellent edge retention, and corrosion resistance. The serrated blade deals perfectly with fibrous materials, seat belts, ropes, fabrics – it solves the situation with a single cut. As always, a dedicated Lansky sharpener works well for sharpening the serrations. The handle (G10) holds in hand very well – a secure grip even with gloves or when wet. The construction is solid, as expected from Cold Steel, and the Tri-Ad Lock provides safety for aggressive cutting. In current times, I recommend this knife as a tactical backup for daily EDC. Small, lightweight, but very capable.

Good knife: slim, thickness comparable to Cold Steel Hold Out 3 or American Lawman, which makes it easily disappear in the pocket, although the large "silver" clip unnecessarily attracts attention. The blade shape means that even gently dragging it across the surface of a material—the knife penetrates it like a plow in the ground, making the knife, aside from self-defense, work well for smaller technical tasks. The combination of the backspacer with the ring and the thumb plate allows you to efficiently open the knife on the pocket edge even while drawing (the thumb plate serves the same function as the "Emerson opener" in knives of other brands). A knife worth considering.

Beast. The karambit is very well made. The perfect tool for cutting cardboard. I recommend it to those who are undecided.
