Cold Steel Tokyo Spike 4116 Fixed Blade Knife - Black

A neck knife from the Spike series, featuring a fixed Straight-Back blade made of high-quality 4116 stainless steel that has been Cryo Quenched. This model features a black handle made of durable Griv-Ex plastic. The set includes a Secure-Ex sheath with a ball chain, allowing the knife to be carried comfortably around the neck.

high-quality 4116 Cryo Quenched steel

The 4116 Cryo Quenched steel used to manufacture the blade is an improved version of 4116 stainless steel (DIN 1.4116). The raw material undergoes additional cryogenic treatment, which improves its durability and mechanical properties.

The carbon content (0.45–0.55%) ensures good hardness, while chromium (14–15%) provides optimal corrosion resistance. The steel also contains molybdenum, vanadium, manganese, silicon, and nickel, which enhance its strength. The cryogenic process stabilizes the steel, increases wear resistance, and helps the knife retain its sharpness longer.

blade in Straight-Back profile

This model features a Straight-Back blade with a smooth cutting edge, measuring 101.6 mm in length and 3 mm in thickness. The blade’s shape is characterized by a straight, gently sloping spine. The blade features a zero-grind edge and a satin finish, which gives it a semi-matte surface and increases its resistance to scratches.

handle made from durable Griv-Ex material

The black handle is made of durable Griv-Ex plastic, which is highly resistant to mechanical damage, moisture, and changing weather conditions. Its non-slip texture improves control over the tool, and the finger groove allows for a stable and comfortable grip. The practical cross guard effectively prevents fingers from accidentally slipping onto the blade.

Secure-Ex sheath included

The set includes a Secure-Ex sheath, designed to hold the knife securely in place while allowing for quick draw when needed. It is equipped with a ball chain that allows you to comfortably wear the knife around your neck. This carrying method is ideal for everyday use as well as for outdoor, tactical, and survival applications.

Secure-Ex feature
Secure-Ex
Secure-Ex is a system developed by Cold Steel, designed for the safe storage and convenient carrying of knives and tools. Sheaths made with this technology are lightweight, durable, and weather-resistant, making them suitable even for intensive use. They hold the knife securely in the sheath while allowing for quick and smooth draw. The system has a modular design - the sheaths can be supplemented with various fasteners, such as buckles, clips (e.g., C-Clip) or ball chains. This allows the knife to be worn on a belt, around the neck, or in other configurations, according to the user's preferences.
4116 Cryo Quenched feature
4116 Cryo Quenched
4116 Cryo Quenched is an improved version of 4116 stainless steel (DIN 1.4116), produced by ThyssenKrupp, subjected to additional cryogenic treatment, which improves its durability and mechanical properties. The carbon content (0.45-0.55%) ensures good hardness, while chromium (14-15%) provides corrosion resistance. The steel also contains molybdenum, vanadium, manganese, silicon, and nickel, which support its strength. The cryogenic process stabilizes the steel, increases wear resistance, and maintains sharpness for longer. After heat treatment, it reaches a hardness of 55-57 HRC, making it easy to maintain and resistant to corrosion. It is widely used in the production of kitchen knives and premium utility tools.
Satin feature
Satin
Satin finishing is one of the most popular blade finishes, achieved by grinding the steel with fine-grained abrasives. Parallel micro-scratches remain on the surface, giving the knife a technical, matte appearance. Satin finishing has both aesthetic and practical significance - a smoothed blade is easier to clean, and the slightly reduced friction promotes smoother cutting. Depending on the direction and intensity of polishing, different effects are achieved - from a matte finish to an almost mirror-like finish. Satin is valued in both utility and collector's knives because it emphasizes the structure and quality of the steel while maintaining functionality.
Griv-Ex feature
Griv-Ex
Griv-Ex is a durable glass-nylon composite reinforced with fiberglass used by Cold Steel, mainly for the production of knife handles, and in some models also for blade components. The material has a textured surface on the handles, which ensures a secure, non-slip grip, and its maintenance usually boils down to simple washing under running water. Griv-Ex is distinguished by its resistance to moisture, corrosion, mechanical damage, and extreme temperatures, and does not warp or crack under harsh conditions. When used in the construction of blades, it is additionally stabilized by UV rays and heat, which further increases its durability.

Great knife. Ultra-light, solidly made, razor sharp, and beautiful. Despite the narrow handle, it fits well in the hand and the texture ensures it doesn’t slip. A product definitely worth recommending, and I will probably buy more from this series myself.

My first purchase was the Bowie and the Spike as a pair. The back of the blade is probably for a firestarter... It sits firmly in the sheath, the make is rough, sharp with a chain. Cold Steel is IT.

Light and compact, yet it is still a full-fledged knife. A good recipe for a decent fixed-blade EDC knife. Decent workmanship and good price, I encourage you to try it.
