Cold Steel Drop Point Spike 4116 Fixed Blade Knife - Black

A fixed-blade knife with a full-tang construction, designed for everyday carry (EDC). The Drop-Point blade is made of corrosion-resistant German 4116 stainless steel that has been Cryo Quenched. The blade features a smooth cutting edge, a flat grind, and a satin finish. The black handle is made of Griv-Ex composite with a non-slip texture. The set includes a Secure-Ex sheath and a black beaded lanyard, allowing the knife to be worn around the neck. Numerous holes and grommets in the sheath allow for multi-position attachment to a belt or other gear.

stainless steel 4116 Cryo Quenched

The blade is made of German 4116 stainless steel that has been cryo-quenched, a process that stabilizes the material’s structure and increases its wear resistance. This steel is characterized by good strength, high corrosion resistance, and the ability to retain its sharpness for longer. After proper heat treatment, it achieves a hardness of 55–57 HRC.

Satin-finished Drop-Point blade

The Drop-Point blade is 100 mm long and 3 mm thick. The cutting edge features a flat grind, and the entire blade has been finished using a satin finish, which gives the surface a semi-matte appearance and reduces glare. The satin finish helps conceal minor scratches that occur during use.

Profiled Griv-Ex composite handle

The handle is made of a durable Griv-Ex glass-nylon composite. This material combines high strength with moisture resistance and low weight. The handle has an ergonomic shape and a non-slip surface.

Secure-Ex sheath

The Secure-Ex sheath is made of a lightweight and durable material that can withstand harsh weather conditions. The sheath holds the knife securely in place thanks to its custom-fit opening, which reduces the risk of accidental ejection. Numerous holes and grommets allow for multi-position attachment to a belt or other pieces of gear.

Cold Steel is a respected American brand of knives, machetes, and tactical tools, founded in 1980 in Irving, California. The company gained popularity thanks to innovative solutions such as Kraton® handles and American Tanto blades, appreciated by uniformed services and military enthusiasts. It also introduced its own steel alloys, such as San Mai III®, which provides high durability and wear resistance. Cold Steel patented the Tri-Ad™ Lock blade locking mechanism, which guarantees safe use. The brand works with respected knifemakers, including the company's founder Lynn C. Thompson and Andrew Demko, whose passion and experience contribute to the high quality of the products.

Secure-Ex feature
Secure-Ex
Secure-Ex is a system developed by Cold Steel, designed for the safe storage and convenient carrying of knives and tools. Sheaths made with this technology are lightweight, durable, and weather-resistant, making them suitable even for intensive use. They hold the knife securely in the sheath while allowing for quick and smooth draw. The system has a modular design - the sheaths can be supplemented with various fasteners, such as buckles, clips (e.g., C-Clip) or ball chains. This allows the knife to be worn on a belt, around the neck, or in other configurations, according to the user's preferences.
4116 Cryo Quenched feature
4116 Cryo Quenched
4116 Cryo Quenched is an improved version of 4116 stainless steel (DIN 1.4116), produced by ThyssenKrupp, subjected to additional cryogenic treatment, which improves its durability and mechanical properties. The carbon content (0.45-0.55%) ensures good hardness, while chromium (14-15%) provides corrosion resistance. The steel also contains molybdenum, vanadium, manganese, silicon, and nickel, which support its strength. The cryogenic process stabilizes the steel, increases wear resistance, and maintains sharpness for longer. After heat treatment, it reaches a hardness of 55-57 HRC, making it easy to maintain and resistant to corrosion. It is widely used in the production of kitchen knives and premium utility tools.
Satin feature
Satin
Satin finishing is one of the most popular blade finishes, achieved by grinding the steel with fine-grained abrasives. Parallel micro-scratches remain on the surface, giving the knife a technical, matte appearance. Satin finishing has both aesthetic and practical significance - a smoothed blade is easier to clean, and the slightly reduced friction promotes smoother cutting. Depending on the direction and intensity of polishing, different effects are achieved - from a matte finish to an almost mirror-like finish. Satin is valued in both utility and collector's knives because it emphasizes the structure and quality of the steel while maintaining functionality.
Griv-Ex feature
Griv-Ex
Griv-Ex is a durable glass-nylon composite reinforced with fiberglass used by Cold Steel, mainly for the production of knife handles, and in some models also for blade components. The material has a textured surface on the handles, which ensures a secure, non-slip grip, and its maintenance usually boils down to simple washing under running water. Griv-Ex is distinguished by its resistance to moisture, corrosion, mechanical damage, and extreme temperatures, and does not warp or crack under harsh conditions. When used in the construction of blades, it is additionally stabilized by UV rays and heat, which further increases its durability.

Great knife. Ultra-light, solidly made, razor sharp, and beautiful. Despite the narrow handle, it fits well in the hand and the texture ensures it doesn’t slip. A product definitely worth recommending, and I will probably buy more from this series myself.

My first purchase was the Bowie and the Spike as a pair. The back of the blade is probably for a firestarter... It sits firmly in the sheath, the make is rough, sharp with a chain. Cold Steel is IT.

Light and compact, yet it is still a full-fledged knife. A good recipe for a decent fixed-blade EDC knife. Decent workmanship and good price, I encourage you to try it.
