Fjord Nansen Svalbard 450 Goose XL Sleeping Bag 830 g – right

Ultralight mummy-style sleeping bag engineered for optimal comfort and freedom of movement during sleep. Constructed from premium nylon, it boasts a rugged outer layer and goose down filling for superior insulation.

Temperature ratings and usage conditions

Temperature specifications for the Svalbard sleeping bag in accordance with the EN 13537 standard:

  • T-comfort: -2 C – indicates the lowest temperature at which a woman can rest comfortably.
  • T-limit: -7 C – defines the lowest temperature at which a man can sleep without experiencing discomfort.
  • T-extreme: -25 C – signifies the minimum temperature for survival; not advised for frequent use.

10D Rip-Stop nylon with Water Repellent coating

Constructed from lightweight 10D Rip-Stop nylon featuring a WR (Water Repellent) coating on both the exterior and interior, the material treatment effectively minimizes moisture absorption. The Rip-Stop pattern enhances resistance to abrasion and prevents propagation of tears. An internal small pocket stores essentials, while loops allow for the secure attachment of a thermal liner.

Goose down filling, H-shaped construction

Insulated with Polish goose down in a 93+/7 blend, the sleeping bag boasts a remarkable 900 cuin fill power for superior compressibility and easy packing. The H-shaped baffle construction effectively prevents down migration and clumping. Featuring a shark fin-shaped footbox, the design naturally conforms to the sleeper’s foot position, maximizing thermal efficiency and minimizing pressure points. The base is stitched at a 70-degree angle.

Right-side zipper, Anti-Bite system

Features a two-way zipper on the right side, allowing for opening from either end. The fluorescent puller provides easy access even in low-light conditions. Incorporates an Anti-Bite system to guard against fabric snagging in the zipper. An internal thermal baffle enhances insulation. Compatible for coupling with another bag from the same series.

Integrated hood, DUO drawcord, thermal collar

Featuring an integrated 3D hood, this design enhances thermal retention, shields the head, and reduces heat escape. The contoured profile offers protection from wind and moisture ingress. The DUO drawcord system unites elastic and webbing – the elastic allows free arm movement without requiring adjustment, while the webbing at the back facilitates rapid loosening, making it especially practical for nighttime use. An internal thermal collar, filled with down and equipped with a drawcord at shoulder level, blocks cold air from entering – optimal for use in cold environments.

Easy to transport and store

Easy to transport and store. Packed dimensions are just 36 x 19 cm, with a total weight of only 830 g, ensuring a lightweight and compact form.

Set elements

Equipped with a practical stuff sack, the sleeping bag remains shielded from dirt and damage during transport.

Main features

The model boasts a thermal insulation R-Value of 3.9, measured in accordance with the ASTM F3340-18 standard. This value determines the level of ground insulation—higher values correspond to greater effectiveness in minimizing heat loss.

R-Value guide as applied in the outdoor equipment sector:

  • 1.0-2.0 – optimal for summer use where nighttime temperatures remain above approximately 10 deg. C.
  • 2.1-3.5 – recommended for the spring-summer-autumn seasons, suitable for temperatures around 0-10 deg. C.
  • 3.6-5.0 – designed for cold weather, effective near 0 deg. C and in subzero conditions down to roughly -5 to -10 deg. C.
  • 5.1-7.0 – intended for winter expeditions, performing well at temperatures below 0 deg. C.
  • above 7.0 – engineered for extreme winter environments, where additional insulation is required.

Actual thermal comfort levels are influenced by the complete sleeping system (sleeping bag, clothing), surface type, and the user's individual cold tolerance.

Technical data

The model offers a thermal insulation R-Value of 3.9, measured according to the ASTM F3340-18 standard. The R-Value represents the degree of insulation provided against ground temperature—the greater the value, the more efficiently heat loss is minimized.

R-Value guidelines as recognized in the outdoor sector:

  • 1.0-2.0 – recommended for use in summer scenarios (with night temperatures above approximately 10 deg. C)
  • 2.1-3.5 – ideal for spring, summer, and autumn periods (temperatures ranging from roughly 0 deg. C to 10 deg. C)
  • 3.6-5.0 – designed for colder environments, around 0 deg. C, and for sub-zero conditions down to approximately -5 deg. C to -10 deg. C
  • 5.1-7.0 – well-suited for winter applications, for conditions below 0 deg. C
  • above 7.0 – built for extreme winter settings where higher insulation performance is required

Thermal comfort in practice is influenced by the entire sleep system (including sleeping bag and clothing), ground type, and personal cold resistance.

Rip-Stop feature
Rip-Stop

Rip-Stop weave protects the fabric from abrasions and tears. It is characterized by additional threads woven in at regular intervals, forming a mesh-like pattern. It provides high strength to the fabric, increases resistance to mechanical damage, especially tears.

Anti-Bite feature
Anti-Bite

Anti-Bite is a system that prevents material from getting jammed in the zipper, used in outdoor clothing and equipment. It prevents the fabric from blocking the zipper, which increases the durability of the product and improves the comfort of use, especially in outdoor conditions.

DUO feature
DUO

DUO drawstring in Fjord Nansen sleeping bags is a two-zone adjustment system, which allows you to adjust the hood independently with an elastic band in front and a tape with a lock in the back. This solution makes it easy to quickly adjust the sleeping bag to your body position and personal preferences, without having to leave the interior.

Excellent sleeping bag, really warm and also light. The carrying bag could be a bit smaller. The H-type chambers are, in my opinion, very low in relation to their width, so the top-quality 900 cuin down cannot fully expand, which is a shame considering such high-quality Polish down. This height/depth of the chambers is used by cheap Chinese brands like Black Snow.
