Higo Kinzoku Damascus Folding Knife

Folding knife with a simple metal construction inspired by knives from the early 19th century. The first Higonokami knives were made as early as 1896 in the Japanese city of Miki. After the last samurais were forbidden to carry swords in public places, many blacksmiths started making knives. The blade is made of high-quality Damascus steel, and the opening is manual using a Friction type lever. The handle is made of silver stainless steel and features a subtle hole for a safety cord.

Damascus steel

The knife's blade is made of Damascus steel, obtained by repeatedly forging and folding layers of steel, giving the blade a characteristic Damascus pattern and elegant appearance. The blade holds its sharpness well and is highly resistant to dulling during everyday use. Damascus steel also provides good impact resistance and favorable cutting properties while remaining relatively easy to sharpen.

Reverse tanto blade

The knife features a slim blade with a Reverse Tanto profile, length of 75 mm and thickness of 2.6 mm. Its surface has a non-coated finish. The flat grind extending halfway up the blade, combined with the small thickness of the blade, ensures good cutting properties.

stainless steel handle

The handle is made from a single piece of bent stainless steel in a silver color. It has a simple, folding design typical of knives inspired by Higonokami. At the end of the handle, there is a hole for a cord.

opening with Chikiri lever, no lock

The model does not include a classic lock. Opening is done manual using a Chikiri lever placed on the back of the blade.

Damascus steel is a composite material created by combining multiple layers of different types of steel with varying properties. Repeated forging and welding creates a structure with high strength, flexibility, and hardness. Layers with a higher carbon content are responsible for the sharpness and durability of the edges, while nickel alloy steel increases corrosion resistance and provides a contrasting pattern. After etching the surface, a unique, wavy pattern characteristic of each piece is revealed. Thanks to its combination of functional and aesthetic properties, Damascus steel is used in premium knives, bladed weapons, and collector's knives.
